I drove my car last night and it was fine and this morning I got in it and it will not go into first or second gear it will only go into 3rd 4th 5th and reverse what do I do.....I dont see how it could be the tranny since it was working last night so does anyone have any idea what it could be....this sucks so bad someone please help

also I tried to get it into gear by easing out on the clutch and it just makes a grinding sound so what does this mean????

 

maybe your clutch/flywheel isnt any good?

 

my buddy had this problem in his 300zx i forget what it was though but it i remember that i was no problem to fix. if i talk to him ill post back

 

check the linkage underneath....??

 

I drove it around the neighbor hood in third gear and got to the stop sign and it shifted normaly into all gears..............very wierd

 

this happened to me before, and it gave me no warning, it just stopped going into gear. weird to explain how it did it but it did.
in my case, my synchros got messed up. take it to a tranny place. but good luck finding one that is honest.

 

yea that reminds me jbreit thats execally what it was it was the synchros

 

so is it commen practice to replace all the synchros when rebuilding our trannies? do most shops replace all the synchros?

 

bad syncros... happened to me until all the gears gave out

 

My bad your right about that... it is the syncros.

 

so it is definatley the syncros?

 

oh yeah if I drop the tranny how much does it cost to have them fixed

yea same happened to me too. I shifted from first to second, heard a big pop and sounded like rocks in my tranny. I couldnt get into 1st or 2nd gear and when i finally could i heard real nasty grinding. Sorry but it sounds like syncro's. Have u done any serious racing lately?

 

it is the synchros, im pretty sure like almost hundred percent. but get it taken care of doode. asap.!

 

I was not even driveing it hard I just pulled in my drive way the night before and it was fine and I did city driveing last night for like 2 hours and it was just like normal no unusual noise or anything goes into gear easily with no problem....

 

i say u drive it until it all craps out on u like mine did and go out and buy a 01 tranny. mine only had 4,500 miles on it for 750 shipped. if u install it urself u could save a bundle. ohh and stay away from excedy stock replacement clutches...they dont hold up to repeated street racing ( not that i know anything about street racing)

 

trust me doode. mine hapened the same way, i didn't race or anything, and it just gave out on me. but started from 4th gear.
i was on the freeway, was doing 70 like everyone else, and when slowing down, downshifted to 4th, and it went in, but didn't catch anything. it felt like i was just on neutral, then i exited. after exit, it stopped going into 1st and 2nd gear. trust me. its the synchros.

 

that sucks ***** but thank you guys for all your input....do I gotta have differant axels for a 01 tranny? how much fluid does it hold? direct fit? am I gonna run into any problems during installation?
