Yes, I finished the retrofit of bi-xenon projectors this weekend (thank you 3 day weekend). Hardest part was the wiring. Im going to wire the high beams later, i want to make sure everything else works first. Still got a little more aiming to do, but its great for now. The light in the pics came out green for some reason, its really a light blue in person during the day.

Thanks, they are kinda ghetto rigged though, they arent bolted in, im going to jbweld them in place this week, but I was able to get them to fit snug in there since they are so big. They dont move at all, and the stock headlight plastic lens prevents them from moving.

All in all, it was a fun project (cutting the headlights was fun), and its a huge goal thats accomplished now for me. Not to mention the lighting on the road is AMAZING now.

Info:

Projectors: Came out of a 2003 Mercedes E500 (probably wrecked), All hella brand products.

Total cost: $400 ($280 for the projectors, ballasts, and bulbs)
$44 for the custom harness, $35 for the dremel, etc, etc.

I was lucky and got a good deal on ebay, usually all of that would cost > $500.

 

Maybe its just me but i think it looks kinda funny. It just doesn't flow with the maxima lines. Looks like eyes bulging out of the car....Nice job tho....not my taste.

I really dont want to mess with my sheild, since its connected to the selenoid which makes it bi-xenon. I dont think that modification works with the bi-xenon ones.

 

The problem with projector retrofits, is there really isnt any DIY write-ups. Everyones will be different, trust me. Only thing that is the same, is the wiring. Best thing to do, is when you get your projectors, place the projector in the stock housing, see what you need to cut, and see how you want to mount them.

Yea but now I like driving at night, suspension is perfectly fine(im lowered 1.5", anymore and its overkill for the winter). Plus, this makes my car look MUCH nicer, especially at night. You'd almost think a bmw is behind you, nope, a maxima. Ive gotten a bunch of complements from people, I reccomend this to anyone, makes driving much easier at night knowing whats on the road. Not to mention, its so bright, it literally looks like daytime on the ground.

Any ideas on a material I can use to wrap around the space between the lens and the projector to eliminate the glare? I need something that can basically withstand the heat and is moldable.

a couple of things....nice work in getting them installed...I know the feeling.

1. DON't I repeat PLEASE DON'T use Tin FOIL!...it will make the lights look like complete AR$e.

2. Your projectors need to be rotated to the left to give the correct beam pattern

I had to be schooled on it too....but before you epoxy them go to www.hidforum.com and see the correct beam pattern.

3. This is just an opinion but I think that your projector lense is too close to the actual headlight lense...tends to not give it a natural look....

Oh i know they are not aligned correctly, but i cant seem to rotate them any farther. Thats as good as it gets unfortunatly. These are big projectors, the high beam selenoid does not allow me to rotate them to be straight, they are SLIGHLTY angled, but not that bad. Ive tested it on dark roads, and you can hardly notice.

Thats as far as i could push the projectors back too. Frankly, this is as good as it gets as far as fitting them in. The shrouds arent the problem either, those fit fine, its just these projectors are so damn big. Keep in mind, im pretty sure this is the 4th generation ballasts, so the projectors are updated a bit too, i dont think anyone has used these yet except Forms (I think he has a 3rd generation one, not sure).

I have gotten them aligned according to the height and space between each beam, so that part is perfect right now.

And dont worry about tin foil, i know that would look bad, what ideas would you have for covering up that space between the lens and the bulb then? I dont really want to paint the stock housings completly black either.

Trust me, its worth it. The huge advantage with projectors is, you can aim them higher than halogens, cause it gives off basically no glare. So I can see down the highway pretty well. I have basically an extra 1 or 2 car lengths of light against a normal car depending on the angle of the road, not to mention that the light is extremly bright, almost like daylight. I love seeing the reflection of the Blue/Purple cutoff on white cars when im waiting at a light.
