Y-pipe hurting fuel efficiency?
Y-pipe hurting fuel efficiency?
Any Ideas?
I've clocked about 140 miles on my new y-pipe, and I've used half a tank of gas... I can normally travel around 200 or so on half a tank (I think)... I'm pretty much 50/50 for highway/city driving, although I do sit in a lot of traffic, around 8 miles of stop & go on Rte 66 in the mornings
... Total journey from home to work is about 27 -28 miles...
Presumably the ability to expel engine gases makes for faster/greater fuel consumption?
Any one else notice this?
P.S. Some of this may be down to my pitiful tires (which are being replaced tomorrow morning)...

Yeah, the thread on the sensor was rusted to ish... Guess it's just luck of the draw... But use lots of PB Blaster before you try to remove it... That's your best shot... Replacement o2 sensors are only about $60, so it's not a killer really... Just a PITA

o2 sensors can be a biatch to install because of where they are at... nothing crazy though but they will definately hurt your gas mileage.
And no its not common for them to strip when putting a Y pipe, its just a matter of how rusted and corroded the threads are... sometimes **** happens

Make sure that both of your 02 sensors are actually screwed in good to the pipe. the extra o2 from it not bieing good in there would make it run rich.
I ran for like 6 months with a bad o2 sensor, didnt notice anything differnt at all....

They have loads, and they're by far the cheapest I've found on the net...

Well its generally not a good idea to judge gas mileage by comparing mileages at gauge intervals. The gauge is VERY vague and just provides a general level. At 1/2 tank, I've had times where I only had 150miles, and others where I had 250miles....but everytime I measure my exact MPG, it always came out to 20-21....
And sometimes when the gauge reads at E, I only put in like 14-15 gal of gas, when I have an 18.5 gal tank....which leaves like 4 gals of gas left to use (~80 more miles)

When I put on my Cattman Y-pipe my milage dropped too. The way it was described to me was in eliminating the precat in the stock Y-pipe the exhaust is getting out quicker so the gas gets in quicker.. Hence giving you more power. All of my sensors are good. Of all the things I put on the Y-pipe changed my milage the most.
