I got a CE light (0903) yesterday that indicated a fault in the EVAP canister control valve. I pulled the canisiter with the valve attached (one bolt was seized on the valve) and tested it with a battery and I can hear valve opening and closing with the power source. The connecter had some road grime and dirt that fell out. All connections appeared to be okay. I had read about using WD40 or replacing a o-ring. Where do I spray WD40 and where is this O-ring?

Hearing the valve operate is encouraging but not, by itself, an adequate test. You should put a length of clean test hose on the one hose connection. Blow into the test hose. With no voltage, air should pass freely. With 12 volts applied, no air should pass.

If the EVAP CVCV fails this test spray a generous amount of WD-40 into the the hose nipple. Shake the valve around to distribute the fluid. With luck, that will free up a sticking internal mechanism.

The O-ring you mentioned is between the EVAP CVCV and the canister itself. Since you were unable to separate these two components there is no need to replace the O-ring.

Hmmmm.....sounds like my valve is bad. With no power applied, I did blow into nipple (sounds kinky) and I got a blast of air coming out of the two nipples on the canister.

I guess that CE light will appear shortly.

I went back and re-read the book... and discovered that I got it backward. Apologies for the confusion. The EVAP CVCV should pass air with the solenoid unpowered and not pass air with the solenoid energized.

I'll spray some WD40 up in there and see what happens. I called Nissan and it appears there are two styles of control valves. One he called the new style and anotherthe old style. Since the bolt is seized to the canister, I'll have to replace both systems. Have you heard of two different types of valves?

No, but I'd trust the dealer's information.
