1998 maxima shifter sticks

Has an automatic transmission and when pressing the button on the shifter it sticks, especially when it's cold outside. Eventually it works, but it takes a while pressing the button. Replaced a shifter lock cilynoid but it didn't help. My next step was to replace cable that locks the shifter when the key is not in the ignition.
Any ideas??
Thanks.

I have the same problem, After I checked to make sure that the solenoids were working and the shifter cable was ajusted correctly I found the white slide that is pushed by the solenoid, has a bump on it. It's just enough to grab as it's trying to slide under the ignition slide. It took a while to figure what was happening. If the Ignition slide is working and the break solenoid is pushing, I would look at the white (polyurithane) slides. Make sure they are sliding easily past each other. I'm talking about the ones that are "on top of" and "below" the rod that goes up and down when the shifter button is pushed. I'm assuming that it got jammed up when one of the release solenoids was acting up.

Considering this post is 5 years old, I'm sure he either fixed it or no longer cares.

Thanks, man - that's very informative. I have the same issue.
