Need Opinions on Most Likely Cause for Code 0308 and Service Manual

I have been getting ECU code 0308 indicating that there is a problem with the control system for the right bank. Probable causes are a short in the system or a bad O2 sensor. My wife and I are arguing over the cause. I believe its a bad O2 sensor because I am able to clear the code. The light comes back on only after I have driven the car for about 60 miles, shut off the engine for 8 hours and upon restart, the light comes on after a couple of minutes - this has happened 3 times this way. The light does not come on when just taking short trips. The wife thinks that the problem was caused by high pressure washing the engine and creating the short. However, I think if it is a short, then the problem would be more random or immediate upon resetting the ECU. Would like to know if my reasoning has any value. In any case, I think I'm going to replace the O2 sensor before looking for a short anyway.
P.S. Opinions on which service manual to buy are also appreciated. Oh by the way - the vehicle is a 97 maxima with 72K miles and I hasd just replaced the spark plugs before the problem started.

Well now I'm thinking that my wife may be right. I bought a Chiltons and followed their directions to check for continuity. The resistance is not within specifications but neither is the other one. So I either have two bad sensors or a short......

i bought a haynes manual and its helped a lot.

i dont have any experience with the o2 sensors YET, but it seems as though a lot of people have problems with them.

while your at it check your knock sensor.

the codes wont come back immediatly after you reset the ecu. mine usually take a day or two of short trips for the light to come back on

good luck

I finally figured out that my son or his buddy must have fired my ohm meter. Got a new one and both O2 senors check out for resistance. However, I think I'll replace it anyway since I have no idea to start looking for a short in the control loop.

Thanks for your advice - I will check out the knock sensor also.
