300zx Brake Upgrade?!?!?

Alright I have a few questions. I'm thinking of upgrading to the 300zx calipers. Do I need to upgrade my rotors to a bigger size or will the stock size rotors fit this caliper? And what else do I need to know. Thanks - Ray

You will need to upgrade the rotors to a bigger size as the 4th gen rotors are not the right size.

Iilac, how do you get Ii-Lee-Ack from Iilac? Isn't there something missing between the L and the A?

ok if you really want to do the 300ZX brake up grade.... you need 300ZX brake calipers and rotors.... you have to have the 300ZX brake rotors machined to a smaller diameter I think its by 2mm.. you will also need either conversion brake lines for 240sx/300zx upgrade...I was told they will work on the Max.. I used 300zx lines and hoses... make sure you buy some washers to put on the brake caliper bolts..or they will go to far and damage the thread (don't ask)... also be prepared to remove the rear dust shield for the stock brakes... and you may need a grinder to mod the lower control arm for rotor clearance..... pros..looks cool/ fade resitance/ pedal feel... cons...not cheap all told/ overall brake performance minor improvement/lots of work

and don't forget stock wheels won't fit with Z brakes.. you will need aftermarket wheels with aprox 2" from hub to spokes... more is better.. or stock Z wheels

this is a great thread if we can get some more info in here i should be stickied. I have a couple questions of my Own. Is the extra rotor that has to be removed from the diameter or from the thickness? i was under the impression that the Z front rotors and the Maxima front rotors at 11 inches. Also my car is has abs would i still beable to retain the use of my abs if i switch to this setup?

How did you do the conversion on the rear brakes? The parking brake is different on the 2 cars since the 300ZX is rwd.

thats not what he meant. as you look at the wheel hub/brake assembly the dust shield is in the rear (inside towards the center of the car).

If you have access to search there are about 10,000 threads on this that answer any question you could possibly have about the 300zx brake swap.

Im guessing that the stock calipers arent going to be cheap alone. If you were to add all of the parts plus the labor, it may just be easier to just get the stillen bbk. I think it runs for abour 8 to 900.

the stillen bbk is like $2495... There are other bbks in the $900-1200 range though.

Also with the 300zx calipers, u get a wider selection of rotors.
