Ive seen this guy around here and he wants to race me. He has a 96 5speed with VTECH and says he think he can beat me. I think I can smoke him though what do you guys think? All I have is a K&N filter the rest is all stock. I still think I can beat him. What do you guys think?

 

If he doesn't have any serious modifications, you'll smoke him.

 

it would be very very close!! those civics get some major pull and the torque on those little cars give them wheel spin all the way through 3rd gear.

 

I agree with Green 2kSE, my friend owns a 96 EX and I've run him stock many times. Won everytime. Just be weary of his mods!

 

Yeah I have seen his engine and have known him for a while. All he has is VTECH and nothing else. I should beat him. He said he raced a 96 Maxima SE and lost by about 3 car lengths. I also saw him lose to a 97 Eclipse GSX by about 3-4 car lengths. I still think I should be able to win.

 

Are you kidding me? Put it in 2 and you'll still beat him I'll bet. Don't let the word "VTECH" intimidate you. Tell him youve got "6 cylinders" and actual "torque".

 

Thats what im talkin about man, someone who actually has faith in me. lol VTECH doesnt intimidate me I have ridden in his car and dont find it to be very fast. Ill just let him run his mouth then ill smoke him and shut him up. Itll be fun!!!!

 

I know dude you have nothing to worry about. The only VTECH that I find useful is that in the Type S Acuras, which produce 260HP, or the NSX. Thats serious power. This is a 127HP Civic we're talking about here. I've driven one before and was not impressed. Tell him you have "VQ".

 

Come on, you should able to take him easily. I can even take out Civic SI quite easily, nevermind a regular Civic. Unless though, the Civic has some serious mods.


sb97max: you said you saw him lose to a Eclipse GSX by 3-4 car lenghts? That GSX should kill him by a whole lot more, maybe the GSX was just playing with him. Nevermind a Civic, the GSX can rip your and mine Maxima apart easily. Those suckers are fast!

 

My girl has the same model and it is soooooo slow. Easy 5 carlength advantage.

The only reason why I even posted is because he's talkin a bunch of crap and I just wanted to show how pathetic Those Honda owners are, they all think they can beat everyone. challenge yourself...pull a spark plug out so you run a 5 cyl and see if you can beat him.

What mods does hed have if any? You better make sure he didnt do a engine swap. Some Hondas out there are fast. If he isnt SI then his VTEC is useless. Notice how the "true" VTECs (SI, S2000, Lude SH, GS-R, Type-R) have such high redlines. Have you ever seen the redlines on the normal Hondas (EX) that say VTEC on the engine? Not even close to the "true" VTECS. This is just what i have noticed.

You should beat him, just get a good launch on him. Launch at about 2k or so on the street.

BTW, i have seen some civics at englishtown that run 15.7-15.5's on the 1.6L with mods. What mods i dont know but i def know they arent the SI motor nor motor swaps. THey could be bored out for all i know. Im just saying watch out but i'm sure you will win.

 

Well the race is over well i guess it was Races. He was pretty condident and for a minute I was a little worried because a buddy of mine told me that he might have NOS. It turns out he didnt though. I have an Automatic and he has a 5 speeed so I knew he would probably beat me off the line. Out of the start he didnt really beat me off the line by as much as I thought he would. And it was only a matter of seconds before I caught him and blew by him, I won by around 5 car lengths on him in that first race. After that race he wanted to see my engine because he swore I had some mods done. He soon found out that all I have is a K&N drop in filter which probably wasnt a big factor at all. So we raced a few more times with the same result until I decided not to waste anymore gas. He then started with the excuses saying he had sprained his ankle the night before and it was hard for him to use it while racing. I just laughed and then left. So he should stop talking now, and wake up and realize just how fast Maxima's are. Now im off to go install my Tranny Cooler. Take Care

 

Now his friend wants me to him in his BMW its an 89 ill have to get back to you on the model. Its all stock with 150K miles. He beat the Honda I raced by about a Car Length so I should still be able to beat him. This is kinda funny though, I beat one car in there little group and they try to find another one to beat me. LOL

 

Great job on the kill. I do have *some* respect for the Honda owners, then there are owners like you mentioned who wont give it up. Keep us posted on hte BWM match. hehe.
