Some info on engine hesitation needed.

When hit the gas pedal hard there is a sec of pause, no responce from engine, and then all of sudden like a surge of power with rmps going up accordingly. I was told maybe its ignition coils or tranny problem. If its the tranny slipping problem, wouldnt the engine at least rev before the car would move?

I belive it would. Could be problem with fuel, and Fuel pressure. Could be coils or i think most unlikely tranny. This problem is common with 00-01 max's . i had the same problem. Mine was fixed with new fuel pump and plugs. Have you have a SES light turn on yet? if so get a code for it. that will somewhat narrow it down alittle....

Go to one of the parts chains that offer to read your SES code for free, like Autozone. What you describe sounds very much like how my '00 SE behaved when the Mass Air Flow sensor went out. The code for this is P1320. The MAF for the '00-'01 is right around $100 and is reasonably easy to replace if you have some experience with wrenching on cars. It cured the problem on my car and the driveability has been restored.

This problem sounds similar to one I am having. It also sounds a lot like the tranny slip that many people have described in previous posts. Many people describe delayed down shift or delayed engagement of the gears. Not necessarily with rpms increasing at the same time. I still haven't had a chance to bug my dealer about this one.
