As posted on the Fresh Alloy forum:

From Nissan news:

The Altima development team set performance targets at class-leading levels. In preliminary testing, V6 Altimas set a 0 to 60 mph time of 6.3 seconds with manual transmission and 7.2 seconds for automatic transmission. The 4-cylinder automatic Altima should also lead the class with an 8.6 second 0 to 60 mph time.

I wouldn't say "may"

They "will" spank the Maxima, at least in current form. Looks like I'll reluctantly be trading in for either the new Altima or upcoming Maxima. ***sigh***

Well, I said "may" because we don't yet know for sure what Nissan will end up doing. I would have thought that they would try to protect the Maxima 5spd from the Altima 5spds. A lot of 5spd Maxima owners will be unhappy (auto owners too).

But I guess this just shows that the Altima is taking the Max's place.

Will be interesting to see what this does to 5th gen Maxima resale over the next couple of years.

I am impressed with the Altima specs for the most part, but I wish they offered the 6 speed tranny from the Sentra SER-V. Also, the fuel tank is going to be 20 gal, which they say will be good for 360 miles (for the V6) between fillups on the highway. If my math is correct, that translates to a rather poor mileage (18-20).

I hear you. Although I'm probably running 6.3 or better right now with mods. It won't take long before we see modified 3.5s beating us.

Now, how to convince my wife that I should trade for the 2002 max SE-R while she keeps her 96. Hmmmmm

Something to think about:

Max will be 3.5 for certain since they are making I30 --> I35. Rumor has it that it will be 275 hp. From what we see with the Altima - it has to be that across the board else it will be hard to sell.

What will the difference be between the Max 3.5 and the Altima 3.5? If it is substantial like variable intake runners and cams (i.e. 4th gen compared to 5th gen), then a 2k2 max would be a good bet. But, will it be something easily modifiable on the Altima so that they could be running with 275? If so, I might be looking at an Altima. That'll be the key.

OK, now I'm certain.

This is on another thread:

Altimas new v6 =240 hp, 246 torque. 5 sp 6.3, Auto 7.2 (0-60) WOW! Here are all the specs just released from Nissan.

http://www.nissannews.com/nissan/pr...tima/index.html

246 ft-lbs TORQUE - translated massacre of Maximas by Altima SEs from a roll.

Ok. If I trade in, I probably lose a couple grand. So, maybe its time for the supercharger.

Are the new Altimas going to be built in the US?

I guess I might feel better if I knew Nissan's plan for the Altima, Max, and the Q's.

Yes - in Tennessee. Do the link. After you get done reading it you will have to ask: Why would I buy a Maxima?

You have to realize that the vast majority of the Altimas will be with 2.5l engines and less equipped than the Max. Only the SE V6 5spd Altimas will be a threat.

Try this

http://www.nissannews.com/nissan/pr_...ima/index.html

If that doesn't work, there is another thread with the link.
