I think I just saved $200

I hacked my stock airbox today. I think it sounds great. I used a combination of a hole saw in the drill and a drywall saw to cut out the entire driver side of the lower airbox. Everything still looks stock. I'm using a Wix panel air filter (have always used Wix filters in all my cars). Good thing I didn't order the Cattman Hybrid Intake on Friday like I was going to.

from what I can tell it drives about the same. there may be a few hp gain, but not much different. it does tend to run to redline smooth and quick, but that may be due to my driving style after putting it on there.

I'll snap a few pics in a few hours and maybe even a video for the sound.

i dont think there will be any gains with this setup...
i mean is it any less restrictive than before?

other than just sound, putting on a cone filter increases the surface area of the filter which would allow more air to pass through. all in all, intakes don't really provide amazing gains, so most people just get it for the sound anyways (like i did)...so in that sense its much more worth it to do it for free

yeah, i only cared about the sound, and this definitely got it for me. here are some pictures of the job and a few videos to illustrate the sound. turn up the bass and the volume; it sounds better in the car.

(ignore video quality please; it ain't easy to film and drive at the same time. )
