What is this part, coming from the rear of the 5 spd trans

I was looking under the car on Monday and I saw something that I never saw on any car. It look like a drive shaft for a rear wheel drive car, coming from the rear of the tranny pointing towards the rear of the car. I was trying to see where it goes but it hidden by the exhaust shield. But it don't come out towards the rear of the car. It just disappear. Do anybody know the name of this part and what it is for.

That is the shift rods. Unfortunately, these trannies don't shift via mystical magical powers.

Check your local pharmacy in the "Family Planning" aisle.

Wow, there is actually a GrandAm ethusiast site........that's scary.....wonder if there is one for the Geo Metro. One of thier threads would be "I raced this grandma walking on the side of the street....I beat her! Woot!"

Easy on the Suzuki's! My buddy had an 88 Chevy Turbo Sprint. Yeah go ahead and laugh! We wastegated it and added a blowoff valve, and anyways the thing was running 15 lbs. of boost. 0-60 was about 5.0 sec. flat, no lie!

Hey, what is wrong with a GrandAm, That is a nice car. Has alot of for a 4 cyl engine.
But I give it a 7 out of 10, I just which I got the V6 model.

But a 88 Chevy Sprint that did 0-60 in 5 sec. I that to see to believe that.

did that metro have the 1-liter engine, or did they go all out and put all four cylinders in it? seems to me a good tune-up would be to take the old squirrel out from the cage under the hood and replace it with a racoon

1 litre 3cyl. They had 45hp N/A, and 70 with the turbo. Stock boost was 6psi. So at 15psi, I estimate we had it at about 120-130hp or so. I still can't believe it even took 15psi of boost! We also put a 300ZX hood scoop on it and lifted the intercooler up underneath it. Top speed still sucked, but stoplight to stoplight drags were its forte. It had 215/50-13 BFG Euro's on Riken Mesh, and it would spin them senselessly. As fast as you could row that little rubber shifter, there wasn't much that could keep up to it for the first three blocks. We used to dare people to keep their hands on the dashboard in the passenger seat, you couldn't do it! It was a crazy little car.... Man we used to terrorize the Vancouver streets back in '91.....good times! I still wonder how much more boost it would have taken with a good boost timing retarder.
