This is actually easy to check on your own, I usually trust my judgement more than Nissan techs. etc.

What did they check "electrical"?

Nope, it's free in October. They had it last year too. Say you want the free 100-point inspection and they'll know what you're talking about.

I go pretty much every year, but I've learned that some of what they say aren't always accurate. I tested this last year, buy going to two different dealerships on the same day. One gave me a clean bill of health, while the other gave me a list of "Must take care of soon" items. With results like that, its hard to tell what to believe. This year I went to only one, and they DID catch a shimmy that was slipp'n before it caused me any major headaches.

All in all, I don't think it hurts to make the visit if only to go over what they come up with yourself. DIY'ers rule!!

I think so. Just call up your local dealer and ask

It's just an opportunity for the dealer to tell you that you car needs $500+ in repairs that it doesn't need. Oh and they tell you if you don't get it done, your car will fall apart in 2 days. Nice scare tactic.

Have them take a look, run the codes (if any) then leave and fix it yourself.

I agree with Jeff on this one. Every year millions of people take their cars in to get "checked" and then come out with a repair bill on something that "had to be taken care of" even though that morning when they drove their car into the dealership it was running perfectly, and they couldn't tell that a damn thing was wrong with it.

Why else is Nissan giving these checks away for free, if not to find problems with people's cars and then make back not only that time spent on the check, but additional money? There is no other reason.

I have spent a LOT LESS money on my vehicles since I stopped bringing them in for "professionals" to check on. I check on the basics myself and I keep the fluids nice and fresh, but one must refer to the adage of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" (or if it isn't broken, don't fix it ).

I just like to laugh at the price quotes they give Last year they told me: 2 bulbs blown, oil pressure switch, and tranny cooler line leak for a grand total of $360 Replaced the bulbs and oil pressure switch myself and my mechanic said there was no tranny cooler leak. Cost me like $15 since I had to buy a socket for the pressure switch since it wouldn't come off

Got an exhaust leak this time and I want to see if it's just the muffler or the b-pipe. I'll have them check it and I'll also see what my mechanic says

Well, hell, we can buy new ignition coils for our cars for a touch over $300 and replace them in 30 minutes, but if you bring it to nissan they'll want $600+. People are so used to paying vast amounts of money on car repairs, and are so scared to open up the hood, that they are unquestioning when it comes to a "pro"'s recommendation on a repair.

Person: "So, do I need to get this fixed right away? Will it break?"
Grease ball: "Hmm, well, it may not break right away, but I gotta be honest with you, I wouldn't drive it like this, and I wouldn't put ma family in it either. No, ma'am."
Person: "Oh, whew! I'm so glad you caught this problem. Here's $760. Thanks!"

i took my car in, my parents took their cars in and nothing that nissan listed on there was not true. alot of people have the feeling the dealerships are trying to rip you off, when in reality they aren't they have to answer to nissan if you complain. in reality its the little gas station mechanics and those little shops everywhere that will screw you. in any event i took my car in and all they said to me is my belts look like they should be replaced in a couple months. but this is my .02 cents

The only way Nissan will know if you complain is if you call Nissan corp. You DO know that dealerships are Privately owned and don't have to answer to Nissan right??

all i am saying is there is nothing wrong with getting the FREE inspection from nissan, i never said it was ok to have the repairs done there. they said my dads Xterra needed a tune up and brakes and belts and it was almost $900 for the service with parts included. i ordered the parts from an online nissan dealer for $350 and did it myself.

yes this is true but we always recieve a survey from nissan following visit to the dealer. these surves always ask us to rate service and quality of work.

Yes, I think those surveys make the local Nissan dealer shake in their boots.

Problem is, if you're unknowledgable, you won't know to complain to nissan about paying $19,000 to fix the cooling system. In any case nobody on the planet can argue that new ignition coils for our cars should cost $600+ installed. It's simply day light robbery and there is no other way to look at it.

Call up a local Nissan dealer and see if they'll take you in. They put it as a 27-pt inspection on the invoice and I get those inpection offers for free in the mail from the dealer like every 2-3 months. Last year they took me in the beginning of Nov without any probs.
