I stumbled upon something that looks like a good deal. At

click on Haynes Manuals $5 off. You will get a printable coupon,
redeemable at Advance Auto Parts stores.

I often advise owners to have a manual for their car. Even if you prefer
to pay a shop to do repairs, the book will help you to be a knowledgeable
consumer.

Incidentally, I already have Haynes books for my own Nissans and like them a
lot. I also have the factory shop manual for both vehicles and find the
Haynes book sometimes has information lacking in the factory book.

Have you found any areas in the Haynes Maxima book that covers the car better then the FSM?
I have both the FSM for my 96 Maxima and the Chiltons 93-98 Maxima book (which skips areas like A/C service, automatic transmission repair/rebuild and also many of the wiring diagrams for the Maximas, but does have electical schematics, and also ommits the body control codes needed for trouble shooting the power windows, locks and alarm systems.) and would add the Haynes book if it is better and more helpful then the Nissan FSM.

Yes. Two come to mind:
(1) replacing the brake pads.
(2) testing and replacing the starter motor.

I wrote a lengthy comparison of the three shop manuals (FSM, Chilton, Haynes) a few months ago and posted it on "alt.autos.nissan". If you think the subject would be of interest to the membership of this forum I will post it here.
