Running WAAAY too rich.

Anybody ever run into a rich condition? If so, how did you adjust down?

I've seen a few run too rich because of a dead o2 sensor. But if it's really bad my first guess would be the airflow meter.

I have tried three different airflow meters. The O2 sensor was new two years ago, can they go that quickly? Kind of a dumb question I guess, I have never had one fail on me this quickly.

PCV valve will also give you a rich condition if it is shot....crap gas mileage and black smoke. Also if the CHTS is shot you will get bad gas mileage, ask dwayne(not sure thats his name). If you are talking about a rich condition from your turbo, then you could use an AFC to pull fuel. Thats what I use to cut fuel on my S/C (4th gen). If it is not for your turbo car then I would not recomend getting the AFC but rather find the actual problem, an NA car should not be running rich if everything is working.

For me it was
Wrong 02 sensor(bosch)
Air intake leak
Failed CHTS

Those were the big three. Also I ended up advancing my timing because it was a little off. Also a little trick that works(might not work for you im not sure) is adjusting the BCDD. I turned a quarter of a turn and that was the last thing I did. On my last tank of gas I got 200+ for that tank. I never found out how far I could of got(due to trany blowing). But before the repairs the car was getting 125 miles per tank and I had my own personal smog cloud.

Here's some more detail on the sysmptoms. When the I do a cold start, the car idles decent for a couple minutes and then 'kicks' down to a near stall, rough idle almost until it seems the car is warm, then the idle is all good again. I have put in a new CHTS so that is not the culprit.

Now to expand on this, when I put my foot into it and the turbo spools up, once I am in boost, the car starts to spit and sputter almost as though it is getting too much fuel. I can definately confirm that my fuel gauge drops much faster than I think it should, as in using too much fuel.

There are two things I am going to try, a new O2 sensor and a new idle controller, etc.

Anybody else have any more thoughts?

Your maf is on the none charged side right? What's the length from the MAF to the compressor? How long has the car been doing this?

Oh yeah, the MAF for sure is on the none charge side. All in all I'd say the length is only about 18-20 inches from the MAF to the compressor inlet. The thing is, my car didn't always do this.

Hmmm, how new is the MAF? Have you tried running the A/F ratio feedback on the ECU? 18-20 should be enough to prevent air from surging back at the MAF. Is your MAF the adjustable style?

It really sounds like an air intake leak. Double check all the couplers.
