DaveB saves the day again (Spare tire trunk cover alternative)

I was having the usual trouble with a broken spare tire cover (The cover made out of fiberboard). The alternative to buying another one was to purchase a piece of wood such as MDF and cut a piece out using the factory cover as a template. This was causing me much trouble due to the lack of customer service at the Home Depots and Lowes around me. I could not even find somebody to cut me a square piece of MDF, and the only size they sold was either too small or too big to fit into my trunk to take home and cut.

So I gave Dave a call to inquire about the price of a new factory cover. There were 2 different covers, 1 for a full size (like 15 inch wheel) spare, or the stock one that came with my '02. He personally tried out the first option on his own car only to find it was way too small. Then he went the extra mile to look around what he had and found one that actually goes to another Nissan but fit better than the one made for the Maxima. The importance you ask? If I would have bought the one that came with the Maxima I would have spent around $80. Since Dave went that extra mile I paid under $30.... He saved me $50 today and a LOT of hassle. So if you need that spare tire trunk cover CALL DAVE.

Feel free to add your own "Dave saved my ***" stories below...

Thanks for your time, and thank you Dave

Mark

The one I purchased is not but I am sure it could be made to work. I think if you cut away at some of the foam on the bottom of the cover it may fit like a 14 or 15 inch rim with a SUPER LOW PROFILE TIRE

Yes he is. He always goes the extra mile for us. I have not heard one complaint yet and hope I never do.

Thanks Mark!
The alternate spare cover is actually from a Sentra (?!) The part # is 84960-5M000, I get $24 for it, it seems to fit perfectly on a 5th gen!

I'm also in need of the spare cover. Question is that this cover from Sentra will warp like the one came with the max.

BTW, Dave is awesome

Thanks!

I don't really think it's much better, just a ton cheaper- It is larger in overall size, which should make it marginally stronger, but it's still made out of that pressed fiberboard stuff like the stock one. If you get it damp, and/or put heavy stuff on it (like I did), it will probably warp too!

Not to take away any of DAVEB's spotlight by no means .....but i personnally think that buying some wood, treating it and then transfering the plastic pieces and foam over will save you money and will be stronger and better than these cheap nissan pieces. Just my thought. I went this route, cost me less than $20 i think......not even that. I even cut a handle and painted it black. I can stand on the thing and it doesn't move.

Dave is the man.

I bought a cd changer from an org member but he didn't send me the wire that connects the changer to the HU... and i believe his car was in too bad condition to try & pull it out. anyways, i tried calling almost all the nissan dealers around orlando looking for the wire... no luck. Dave B came to my rescue... he is a nissan part guru!!!!
