Cool sound, but what?

I have a stock 5th gen 5 speed. In second gear mostly between 2k and 3k rpm, i hear this whining sound (increases pitch with rpm), almost like a faint supercharger sound. My brother had a 4th gen max and made the sound too.

Wondering if anybody knows what it is, its cool and i wanna make it louder.

it is the air rushing through your stock ****ty airbox, and begin restricted by sharp turns and edges. If you want it louder, remove your ram air snorkel, or better yet cut the front panel off your airbox exposing the filter. it will get louder because it exposes the screen in the maf to more turbulence. When you get a decent intake, this sound is eliminated due to the smoothing of air through the maf, place racing is a good choice.

actually, with most aftermarket intakes, the sound will be just as apparent, or moreso. With most aftermarket intakes, you will also hear a "whistle" at certain RPMs......

but the place racing intake will add that extra HP to help Hind beat those motorcycles

that said, a CAI or WAI (aftermarket) is no more effective in terms of power than the GAB is.......

I seem to think that there are 2 different sounds. There is a low volume higher pitched "whistle" or whine, that I hear at very low speed acceleration, as well as a distinct loud hissing coming from the intake when I'm accelerating slowly, but at higher speeds, that occurs at lower rpms (between 2000-3000). I feel like the whistle/whine is coming from somewhere else... the y-pipe maybe?

Then again.... what do I know?

The hissing, at least in my franken/Apexi setup, is the sound of the air getting sucked through the filter (open the hood and it's way more noticeable)...the whistle I tend to think comes from the air going past the butterfly valve on the throttle body when it's open at a certain angle.....I don't have a ypipe so that's not it - and Joel didn't anyone tell you they are illegal in Va

Thanks for clarifying that, Josh....

I meant the stock y-pipe, of course.... ... (my Cattman y is still uninstalled....)

could the whine be transmission/drivetrain??? that's what I always thought mine was cuz it does it in every gear, especially when coasting at certain engine speeds??

Doubt it... we're talking about something different, according to your description... I only hear the faint whistle/whine when driving very slow, for example, over a speed bump or in a parking lot, mostly when I'm in 2nd gear... I think beyond that, all the other sounds drown it out....

Anyways, I really don't think this is a big deal... just trying to lend another perspective (although, not a whole lot of knowledge) to this thread....

lol irish drop the bike thing, hahaha. its funny, you make me smile. Is your name josh? thats my name too. Well the noise sounds like its commin from the gears, i can feel it through the shifter. I have heard it on race cars before, but hella louder. I know the intake noise, but it dosent do the other noise unless the gears are underload. so, in nuteral i dont hear it.

the whistle sound you here is the air passing through/over the EGR tube if you have ever taken apart your throttle body and looked in the intake manifold you can see it
