Farewell for now, .org

Well, my time as a Maxima owner has come to a stop for now. Gas prices and other circumstances have forced me to give up driving a Maxima for the next 3-4 years. I am staying in the Nissan family though. I picked up a 1999 Altima GLE in Titanium Frost with leather, CD, alloys and airbags with 76k on it. Car is in great shape and should serve me well. I may even mod this one out a little bit. I'm going to miss the .org but I'll be back eventually. I'll still lurk around the boards every now and then.

Later,

.......sorry, but you just made a huge financial mistake.

You bought a car to save money on gas? In the 4 years you plan on driving the altima you're going to get 10% better mileage...so if you were spending $30/week on gas now you're going to be spending $27. $3/week = $156/year savings = $624 over 4 years.

When you sell the altima will it only have depreciated $624 or will it have gone down more than that? (hint: more)

You spent what, $8500? In 4 years you're only going to be able to sell it for about $5800... if the only reason you bought it was to save money on gas, this decision makes no sense.

You would have saved money if you found a way to make one less trip in your maxima, but buying another car....

Maybe you don't know the story behind my maxima...
1.tranny that had ALREADY been rebuilt needs replacement again
2.blown shocks and struts in the front needed replacement
3.A/C blower motor going out
4.A/C leaks in the cabin
5.Windshield leaks when it pours down heavy rain
6.MAF needs replacing
7.Power steering rack needed repair or replacement

Fixing all of these things total up to be more than the value of the car, and I'm wasn't going to pour any more money into that car. Also, I wanted a change of pace, and I couldn't find the Maxima I wanted with the miles I wanted for the price I wanted. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Take it how you want, but try to with a grain of salt. I'm not here to sound defensive or offended, just stating my reasons more clearly.

You expected a lot of maintenance of the Max. What year and mileage was it?

I'm not offended, but if you'd listed those reasons instead of "gas prices" nobody would have thought twice about you dumping the car.

Enjoy the altima.

DAHKNESS IS SPREADING!!!+1

I might bring the Alty out to the Orlando meets but nothing in tampa anymore.I'll get you CFL guys pics of the car when I can.

2k2wannabe:sorry for the confusion, and thanks. I like the Altima already. It's no Maxima, but it's nice for the car it is.

Twiggy:It was an '89 GXE with 176k on it. Paint and interior were in great shape but the mechanical stuff that hadn't been replaced decided to start going out at the end of 2003.

Great (future) choice. Fastest maximas ever. Waiting a few years will also make the 02-03 lose like half of their value.
