Premium gas in 01 Max SE?

Do 5th gen Maxs require premium gas? Anybody running on mid or regular grade gas? Would it damage anything to run on less than premium? Does it make a difference if it's an 01 SE 20th anniversary Max which has a few more horses?

They don't "require" but Nissan reccommends it and so would I. I would do it just to reduce the chance of spark knock.

Didn't you already post this exact question, almost word-for-word? If it wasn't you then someone did it.

Premium won't make your max sound like it has asthma...

when i first got my max i tried putting in cheap gas because why not? started getting a 2nd-3rd gear engine pinging, then it basically pinged whenever i gave it heavy throttle.....i learned my lesson, 91 or more from now on

Wasn't me - why would I do that, anyway? Without search feature, I went looking for posts on this subject but didn't find anything.

Thanx for the responses, guys. A couple of friends with 4th gen Maxs told me that their cars pinged pretty badly on regular. This was something I didn't take into consideration before I got into this car. I might give 89 octane a try. Good thing I still have my trusty old Civic!!!

If you want to keep your vechile for a alittle while and like the way it performs then stick with premium i only see people using regular when they dont give a crap about their car or the performance because they care that much about the couple of dollars they save.

I run mid grade and premium in my car. I have 46,000 km on my car and have never had a problem with pinging. I believe there are two standards for measuring octane. One is RON; the other, I'm not sure of. In Canada, regular is 87, mid-grade or plus is 89, and premium is 91. I have seen some fuel here with an octane rating of 93.
