Where to find Brake Pad Return spring? Please HELP!!

Hi everybody,

I can't find pad's return spring for my Max 95. I talked to a couple dealerships and it looks like they don't know what I am talking about. They offered the whole kit and said there was no return spring for front pads.

I just installed new front Monroe brake pads and found out that one spring is missing on the driver side front brake. Now I know that that small spring is important part. Right brake pads were half the original size and left one almost gone and it was grinded unevenly.

If anybody knows where to look for part please let me know.Thank you in advance.

the are not really necessary. Nissan actually got rid of the springs in their replacement kits. the just help keep the pads off the rotors when the brakes are not being used. I would rather have them than not but it's not a big deal

I think you are referring to the anti-rattle springs. I have not had those on my car for a long time, since about 70k (I'm at 144k now), with no issues. The uneven wear on your brakes may be due to your caliper "sticking". The problem may be solved by taking off the caliper pins, cleaning off the old grease which can become kind of sticky, and putting on new high temp grease. The pins are the ones with the little rubber boots (they look like little accordians, one on top and bottom of the caliper).

Thank you guys for your responses.

I still think that I need that spring. First, when I did my pads last time I cleaned main pins and put new high temp grease, so sticky pin shouldn't be a problem. But the pad with the missing spring (and from the side of missing spring) were worn very fast.

It is not an anti-rattling spring, at least manual (I downloaded from some very generous maxima.org member) shows it as a Pad Return Spring.

I called to a junk yard today and they said that they would sell the whole caliper only, so ...in Vancouver you can't enter yard and take what you need, they sell the way they can make money without loosing anything.

The whole kit from a dealership is expensive, over 50 bucks CND.

I just thought that some parts stores sell such small parts separately but I could not find it on any website selling maxima part.

Anyway, thank you for your thoughts.

That wire spring is not needed. Nissan doesn't sell them or provide them in any rebuild shim kits. Your pads should wear evenly without them. If you have uneven pad wear, something isn't right with your brakes. Either you have a caliper thats binding or the pads are seated to tight in the guides and are dragging slightly.

I remember having that same problem, with one side not having them, and spending like an extra 4 hours trying to find them, only to think I was crazy because according to Nissan they didn't exsist. The amount of brake wear could be do the fact that its time to get some new calipers assuming they are the originals, means they are close to 10 years old...

How do pads come out off disk without spring, just curious.

When I looked at brakes I did not notice anything wrong but I could be wrong and I don't know how to check if there is some bend or anything if you aren't driving.

Thanks for the input.

Those springs are antirattle springs. I believe to help minimize noise. As stated before your calipers may need to be replaced. Also, did you regrease the pins lightly, or put a lot of grease on there.

This link explains that he had uneven wear on his pads:

This link is the second page on how to regrease the pins:

This one explains why his pad was worn more on one side than the other:
