anyone ever bought their totaled car?

my '96 is totaled, but only with light frontend damage. Air bags did not even deploy. Has anyone ever bought their totaled car from the ins company? I would love to have it and strip is down and sell the parts and keep the drivetrain and body. Build the fastest all-motor max

I purchased my '94 Max from my insurance company about 1 year ago but then I sold it back to them because I couldn't keep it where I was living at the time. There is no age limit to my knowledge...the insurance company simply deducted a percentage off their payment.

If they total it tell them you are interested in buying it back and ask how much. They will likely tell you you can have it for the highest bid they can get from salvage yards. They will deduct this figure plus your deductible from whatever they were going to pay you for the loss. I did this a year ago with a 95 200sx and bought it back for $112. Got paid $3,050 for the loss. Put $600 and a lot of sweat labor in and bingo! A car worth $3,500 again.
