I am going to complete the exhaust on my new car which used to be Hal's car. All that is on it right now is a 3" downpipe that ends just in front of the transmission, pointing slightly rearward and diagonally toward the driver's side. Here is a poor, dark picture of the downpipe and the angle it sits at.

I need to figure out a way to "mock up" an exhaust so that I can figure out what mandrel bends to order, where to place the cutout and flex section, etc. Any bright ideas?

 

I've used metal hangars to help my friends mock up IC pipes...you can get an east genral idea of the bends you need. you could also get a ****load of PVC pipes and duct tape from HD and do it that way. I've seen a whole turbo manifold mocked up on an Audi before from PVC piping...it was dead on too with the final product and fit!

just remember don't buy exact or even close lengths of piping...excess is good IMO cause you can always cut it but if you **** up just weld on the excess. IMO the best bends to buy are those U-bends with the long legs, cause you can make a really long straight pipe(welded) and get at least 2 90* bends out of them as well

 

Are you thinking the 180* U bends because you can cut them in half and get 2 90* bends or cut any other desired angle out of them as well? That is a good idea I hadn't thought of that. PVC and clothes hangars are good ideas also. Any others guys?

yeah I got my down pipe running by the fire wall But I wish I could get ridd of the snaking turns in the back before muffler

 

I am not too familiar with turbos nor how you have the exhaust run on that beast but if you can i would try and put the cuttout right around where the stock y pipe was. To me it seems like a good spot to put it to help increase ground clearance and that is where i am putting mine.

 

you can use flexible metal tubing like they use for laundry dryers and stuff, I think you can find it in 3" diameter, its perfect

not the crap with the wire loops in it but the harder all metal kind
