Yep, that's why I got cloth. Especially here in Florida. the leather does make the car classier looking.

Yep, me too. One of two reasons I like cloth better. The other, you dont slide around on cloth.

Yeah, I've got the same problem with my 96 GLE. I live in Utah and in the winter you freeze when you get in the car and sit on the leather...then summer rolls around with it's 90 degree plus temps and everyone gets out of the car looking as if someone had thrown a bucket of water at everyone's backs...I've resorted to getting car seat covers because of this problem.

What color is your leather? I have the tan, and have never been either too cold or too warm in my seats.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Darker colors will tend to absorb heat, the lighter colors reflect it. I have dark grean leather, and it gets real hot during the summer. I pity those with black leather seats in the summer . . . unless they live in Alaska, where the heat absorbtion will be a benefit. I guess they don't sell many Black leather seat Maxes in Florida

I've got tan leather, it is lighter but freak the desert heat and 20 degree temps in the winter...before I put car seat covers in I had to be careful when wearing shorts in the summer. By the way, does anyone know how to get ink (ballpoint pen) stains off of leather...my wife managed to put a pen in her back pocket and lucky me, it blew up. So I now have some pretty fat blue stains on the back seat of the car...I tried a leather cleaner and that pulled alot of it out but it's still pretty visible.

tan and tan

I have tan leather and the exterior of my car is tan also. But I have to tell you that in the summer, the leather is like a frying pan on your butt.
My gf at one time then got her butt and thigh burned one summer day cause it was just that darn hot in the car!!!
but the leather is cooler and easier to clean, but like anything it is a trade-off.

btw, I have noticed that it seems the black and darker color leathers last a longer period of time without the cracks/blemishes as the lighter leather...has anyone else noticed this?

That's why I love cloth seats. My mom's car has leather, and I just don't like them at all. Cloth seats have always felt better to me.

I have the same problem. I also have a 96 SE with black leather. The sun here in FL is a killer. I had to tint my windows. That helped!!!!

I wish I had leather...

Cloth blows ***, especially in my 3rd gen, I find these seats very very uncomfortable, I can never find the best sitting position, they lack any support too. If I had leather at least, I would be able to slide around a little bit. THe summer thing is no big deal for those who like to ride with windows up and AC on, it is a ***** getting into the car though Tinted windows and that windshield cover worked on my friends Supercharged Bonneville a little bit, his was Black on black leather, before he had tints we used to open the doors and throw blankets or towels on the seats before we sat in, that AC was ice cold though and worked very quickly.. Front seats stayed covered all summer long, but I'd still love to have leather seats, just so much more comfort....

Here are some custom Maxima seat covers on Ebay, Check em' out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?

I traded my black I30t with black leather for the same reason: black and Texas weather don't mix well.

I'm in Florida also with a black car black leather.
Tint isn't an option here. It's a must.
The auto window roll down feature is great.
If you have a sun roof make sure you close the sliding shade thingy.

Leather is slippery. The front seats aren't so bad.
Though friends in the back + my driving = lots of sliding.

I can't imagine owning a car without tint.

Ok everyone, just roll down your windows with your keyless (if u have leather you should have keyless entry) get in, put the A/C on 65, drive around with the windows down for a minute while the air gets cool, roll them up when it does, and voila!! Oh, you might want to get 5% tint, it works wonders in the summer.

I live in Florida and have tan leather in my Max. I would never trade it for cloth. Leather is much easier to maintain and does NOT get that hot if you have tinted windows.

Leather looks good but here in MA there to cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. I opted for the grey cloth. If the leather seats are not heated, they are of no use to me here.

Wait a minute, buy a remote starter and let the car get to the right temperature BEFORE you get into it. I can't believe I didn't think of that before.

Try sitting with the seatback a little more upright, that way you're not pressing so much into it.

Tint also helps greatly.

Tint + cloth doesn't even help me on our 90+ days...we have ample humidity too. I get out of my tan cloth integ with 20% tints all around, and my lower back is drenched. I try to avoid the A/C since it bogs my car down so much (wouldn't on a maxi), but I still sweat when the A/Cs blowin cold. Damned lower-back/*** hair >:/

don't perf'd leather seats crack a lot easier? I had perforated leather seats in my 85 accord se-i and once one crack started, it was like a race between cracks to see which one could spread the fastest.

what medicsonic is the best...
get an auto starter...
i'm going to do that, also for the windows... as well as I'm going to get a deeper tint... and one of those silver things to go in the front of the window... and my leather will be black with suede inserts... it wont be hot at all...
so i'll be chillin and i wont stain my suede..
and leather is easy to take care of but if you dont... you're screwed... cloth is much simpler... and if i wasnt such a fool for pimped out class, i'd stay with cloth...

its all up to you

Leather vs. Cloth

I have cloth in my car and I don't really have this problem. I wanted cloth, because I know I can always put nicer aftermarket leather in for LESS than what I would pay for dry leather new. But I must admit, leather makes the car look good. I advise you to consider a pair of cheap racing seats. The reason I say cheap is because the cheap one are the one-piece ones, which will hold you tighter than any other seats. I believe Momo Speed seats run about $300 each, and this particular style is not much better than its competitors, but hey, its Momo. This is a cheap "mod" (if you want to call it that) that should fix your problem, and you can always put the old seat back in. (You can even get custom tracks that allow you racing seat to go on your power seat track). Just trying to help.

Do you know where I can get some decent looking cloth seat covers for my 96' max?
