I just installed my warpspeed Y today and it fit great, its just that when i'm stopped or close to stopped it starts to rattle really loud. It is annoying/embarrasing loud and I seriously cant take it anymore. Its weird though because after my car warms up it seems to go away. Does my Y-Pipe just need to "settle" or is there something that i have done wrong? And also my RPM's are pretty low when i go into Drive or reverse. They go down to 400 to 500 RPMs, I think this contributes to the rattling noise. ive never cleaned my IACV valve cause I dont know where its at. Any suggestions to return my car to normal will help greatly thanks.

 

is it aluminum???? because it might be because you have a crapy y-pipe

 

check the cross link bar in the exit section of the resonator. It is located right under the rear passenger section right after the resonator. If you can get under the car and kinda bang the y pipe at the catalytic part, you might create the shaking that makes the rattles because the rear section of the resonator exit piping is banging on that cross link piece. hope this helps. this may be the case. a lot of people wouldn't remove this piece though because they don't want the rubber to tear during winter. after you remove that link bar, the exhaust is basically hung with just a few pieces of rubber.

 

go back to the shop and tell them to tighten it up, happened to me

 

No, its stainless steel. I tightened all my bolts myself using a breaker bar. I dont like other people working on my car. Anyways, The rattling only seems to happen when my RPM's dip into the 400-500 which is too low of an idle while im stopped, can anyone tell me how to fix this problem. It only happens when i'm in drive or reverse, when I am in park or neutral my RPM's are at 700.. Any Suggestions???

When your engine is running at low RPM, you are getting a lot of vibration in the exhaust system. There is some flexibility built into the exhaust hangers so my best guess is that part of your exhaust system is banging against the body somewhere. If you can safely get under the car while it is idling, I'm sure you can find it.

To fix it, you may have to bend a head shield out of the way, or possibly bend one of your exhaust hangers to get the exhaust farther away from the body.

I dont exactly remember a hanger near there... if i see a pic i will remember.. Anyways thanks koolranch i remember reading this post some time ago. Just a couple hours ago i have located the cause of the sound, it is the second hanger after the B pipe i believe. Anyways you guys have been a big help so far any other suggestions or comments are welcome.

Correction: It is not the Hanger itself its the support beam sorry. If i lift the exhaust up all the rattling goes away! Anyone know how to fix this prob.??
