Newbie Looking for Help - Current Drain/Radio Probs

Hi all, I'm a newbie so please forgive any etiquette breaches.

I recently purchased an '02 GLE (Dark Gray) Certified Pre-Owned from the local Nissan dealer. I have a couple of problems with the car.

First, it seems to be leaking current as the battery will die if it sits for 2 or 3 days unused. The battery is brand-new, as the dealer replaced when it wouldn't start the day after I bought it. Has anyone had a current drain or similar issue with an 02?

Second, the steering wheel stereo controls are non-functional (the trip computer stuff doesn't work either - the cruise control stuff on the right side of the steering wheel does work). The service manager told me today it's because the stereo is actually from an earlier model year and doesn't even support the remote-controls. He also said that a replacement radio from Nissan is ~$1800. Said he would talk with used car manager and get back with me later in the week. I have a due bill that says this must be fixed as part of the contract. Does anyone know where I can get an 02 GLE radio used?

I really like this car, and plan on some mods once I get through these issues.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If it's certified pre owned doesn't it have some kind of warranty? 30, 60 or 90 days? Even so, as it's been certified, shouldn't it have the correct equipment as specified by the VIN#? I'd make the dealer correct EVERYTHING or your money back for that vehicle. I'd consult a lawyer for some advice if the dealer does not cooperate.

Thanks for the response and advise.

It has a powertrain warranty until 2008. Unfortunately doesn't cover electrical (current drain issue), although they seem to be taking responsiblity so far.

I assumed it would have the correct equipment as a certified vehicle as well when I purchased it, so I am eager to hear what the used car manager has to say. All that being said, I'd just be happy if it worked hence my question about anyone knowing where to get a 02 factory radio - I suspect they'll pull a radio out another 02 on their lot.

Again, they are taking responsibility so far. According to the due bill they have to fix it, so I'll take the $1800 new radio if that's how they want to make it right. Other than these two issues, I absolutely love this car. Much more than I thought I would when I bought it.

Bro $1800 is definately not worth it, i understand you like the vechile, but if this car has a couple of problems which they will not cover under warranty just purchase another used 02 or 03 car.

there is a way you can get at least your left side functions working. doesn't matter what radio you have. if you're smart, or if you want your dealership to do it, simply tell them this. when you open up the center console, behind the dash, there will be a bunch of harnesses. 2 of them will contain a brown wire with white stripe. 1 is thicker than the other and that is the wire for your speaker. you do NOT want to touch this. in fact, if you do open the center console, that harness would be connected as you currently hear sound. now, the OTHER harness that contains the brown/white wire, you want to cut that wire off the harness and just wire it to a ground connection on your car. doesn't matter where, and it's THAT SIMPLE. just wire it to a ground connection. your left side controls should be fully functional after that.

many of us have done this as we have aftermarket radios and that is the one thing that we all follow. NOW, i cannot confirm whether your volume up/down will work, but i can confirm that your trip button WILL work.

as far as power drain, tough one. it can be anything. hard to diagnose. good luck.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. No way in he** I'm paying $1800 for a new radio. I've got a due bill on the purchase contract that says the remote stereo controls will work - so if it's a new radio it's their $1800, not mine.

Just wondering if there is a source for used radios, so I could direct them to it since I doubt they're going to want to pony up for the new one.

Thanks again for the responses.
