Cornering Lights = Guilty Pleasure

I used to NOT be a fan of the cornering lights on our 6th gen... But over the past year and half I have come to develop a twisted little habit. I love it when I'm pimping my ride at night and I have people on either side of the MAX. Time it just right before making a lane change and hit the turn signal so that it delivers a blast of halogen MAX power right in their fat dish. Always gets their attention...

Am I the only one guilty of this? Should I seek help?

You need some serious help! Virtually any bar in Tijuana should take care of any illness you may have.

I love blasting them with my Xtreme PIAAs. They shine like mini-HIDs. It's only fair warning since we know we can make it. It helps prepare them for the rush of adrenaline watching us pass.

I love it when I'm following someone... I just know they're going to address my "burnt fog-light". Then when I explain the functionality, they're saying "Damn this car has everything!"

Nismo - I always think the same thing about the "burnt out" fog light. I'm running first at a stoplight I flip the turn signal off so peeps dont think I have a fog out... LOL

I loved having the cornering lights on my 1985 Maxima (yes, the '85 Maxima had cornering lights), and was very pleased to see them on the 6th gen. I often use them to light up something I want to see beside the road (usually when moving slowly or stopped), whether I am turning or not.

I also use them to light up the mailbox when we are arriving home after dark.

I find them to be a huge help when turning into a narrow driveway/alley/etc which is not lit.

Hey I thought I was the only one. Gotta love da "burnt-out fog lights". I love the confused look on the driver's face when it comes on because they like "What da ****?"

The guys who came up with cornering lights for the '62 Cadillacs had their act together. I've been a big fan of cornering lights since I learned what they were in the early 70s. It's a great standard feature on the Max. Nissan must like them too since they also put them on the Quest.

You need some clarification on what cornering lights are? As I mentioned in my earlier post, Cadillac introduced them in 1962. They are a lamp that's mounted on each front corner of the vehicle. When the headlamps are on and the turn signal activated, the corresponding lamp will light up, projecting a beam of light approximately 45 degrees to the side so that the path of your turn is illiminated. Sorry if that's TMI.

These are the lights on either side of the car just in front of the front wheel well. When you turn on your blinker with your headlights on, they light up giving you a shot of light in the direction you are going to turn. Forum users have replaced the bulbs in these light to make them brighter than the stock bulbs. To those of you who have done this: What size bulb did it take and how difficult was it to install the bulbs?

The Maxima has fog lights integrated into the headlight housing that people have also re-bulbed with various colors.

Are these aftermarket bulbs that much brighter? I mean...is there really a big difference? Just curious. If someone could somehow post a before & after pic that would be sweet. Thanks

Check out MotionR 6000k. They outperform Silverstar, Sylvania/osram, PIAA, Phillips and more.

do you guys stick your arm up from under the cornering light to reach it? I had a heck of a time trying to get at it from the wheel well..Only reason I ask it on here before doing it is bc its 20 degrees outside and I like knowing what to look out for..tips..etc..

you still haven't done this? all i did was remove the 2 screws directly under the light. a plate comes off reach in and pull out the bubls.

what are you messing with the wheel well for? I'm typing English so I know the miscommunication is not on my end

I replaced mine, you need to go in from the wheel well. Turn your wheels to the right (for driver's side) and there are 2 screws on the bottom of the bumper, take them out and then you can pull the wheel well lining from the bumper, reach in twist and the bulb comes out...easy job...

Yeah, long time ago...it was easy...2 screws under the light frees up the plastic, if you are doing driver side turn the wheel all the way to the right..this allows you to seperate the plastic from the inner fender from the body of the car. I had to stick my arm in to about my elbow to access the fixture (it was way too tight to go in from the bottom). The bulb unscrews facing the back of the car, so this is the best way to get at it.

The PIAA's look cool and blue when off, but im not overly impressed with the light output. I got them bc they are blue when off though.

Well good thng our directions match!! (post #32) I'm still unsure of the blue when off look, I might find som LED's to replcae so I can go back to normal. My Piaa's are super bright though, maybe our vision of brightness is a bit different???

Hehe very funny...actually i had my piaas installed when they did my HID retrofit. I never saw how they got acess to them. I don't like the way the piass look on my car, i guess its because i dont have anything else that is blue. I opened up the wheel well by removing the 2 screws at the bottom. I can see and reach the cornering light compartment, but i cant get to the bulbs. It doesnt seem like you can just reach in and twist the bulb off. It has a black cover around the housing. Do i have to remove the housing? Thanks!

i figured you had them installed. yeah, the whole blue cornering and reverse light thing is 50/50 for me. everyone likes it and asks how to get theirs like it. i like the output so i'll keep them till they go, then i'll look for chrome/stealth ones. htey have to match HID though.

I just remember unscrewing the 2 and reaching in there.
