Strange Vibration?

My car has developed a weird vibration at certain times. It seems to be when it is changing gears. I can accelerate through it or slow down and it goes away, but if I stay at the same speed, it stays for a bit longer then goes away. The steering wheel shakes and it makes a strange kinda grinding, pounding sound. Passengers barely notice, but I def. notice. Im thinking its a sign that its time for a new tranny maybe? I have 150,xxx miles on the original. I have an automatic. If it is time for a tranny change, how much is a new auto tranny, also, how much more would it be to convert to manual? I really hope is not a tranny problem though because that is major. Thank you guys for the help.

it could be a numer of things, but most likely ur tranny is about tp go. thats the case when it grinds/slips when chaging gears. the vibration may be caused by bad struts or motor mounts or maybe your wheels need to be realigned. im dont kno too much about this, so i would have your mecahnic check it out. if it turns out to be tranny, i would geta used one with relatively low miles from carparts.com or somewhere. good luck
