Oil filter can I access it from the hood?

IF so where is it?

I have a 99 maxima, its the christmas rush and all oil places have a 2 hour wait.

Also any suggestions on filter and oil?

I would search the forum but its turned off.

THanks.

you need to buy a haynes manual, thers no rush at the auto store for those $14 goes a LONGGGG way. you can access it from under the car if your car isnt lowered. you can change the oil and the filterw ithout raising the car on a stock suspension.

If you turn your wheels all the way to the right, you can get at the filter from in front of the right front tire; there's some plastic guards you have to remove (2 or 3 screws)

"you need to buy a haynes manual"
Someone posted the manual for the maxima on another thread so I just found out where it was.

"do you plan on doing your own oil from now on?"
Possibly if I have time, I live in an apt. so its not very conveniant to work on your car in the parking lot.

"If you turn your wheels all the way to the right" I found someone talking about this method in another thread I might use it.

Ok anyone have any suggestions for filter and oil? if i am going to do this myself I may look in to using the best stuff or something very good. My car has 65k miles on it.

I hear some maxima guys ride up on a 2x4 or a small curb to gain easy access to the oil filter. If you are at an apt, you gotta improvise sometimes. But be sure not to make a mess and take the old oil to an autostore that takes old oil.

Fortunately I can get to the filter from behind the right front tire. Its going to suck but i can get under the car just to drain the oil.

A guy from my complex saw me looking under my hood and offered a jack and some tools if i needed them.

Are KandN Hp 1010 oil filters good? they have that conveniant screw on the end and they are $11.88 at advanced auto parts.

I use bosch oil filters. from what I read in the lube section of the org they are better than fram. Some ppl say mobil 1 oil filters are good too, I have never heard of KandN HP though, sounds french, which is crap.

Haha! K & N. Better now? I think they are decent. But pricey. OEM is good.

I use the Purolator PureOne version. It has an anti-drain back valve and haven't had any problems with them.

I use the Walmart Supertech oilfilters. They are made by champion laboratories the same company that makes mobil1 and bosch and champ filters(these are very good) someone reccomended i put one on my CBR 600. I was like uh no...so i bought a bosch filter and a walmart supertech and found the exact same filter media when i cut it open. I was very impressed. Oh by the way the Supertech filters are 1.88 at walmart .

it took me 2 snoop dog songs to change my oil the other day (Castrol GTX), I didnt really rush or anything, you can jack up the car, and you dont really even need to take off the plastic splash guard, while your under and can reach the drain plug just extend your arm a little more and you can reach the filter.

once your used to it you can probably knock it out in a comerical brake, the longest part is pouring the new oil back in.

If you need a haynes manual to change your oil, your an idiot. Theres a drain plug on the bottom passengers side of the car on the oil pan. The filter is accessible from the bottom of the car by the passengers side tire... thats pretty much it... oil plug is 14mm I believe.
The best of the best... Castrol GTX if your using regular oil
Mobil 1 Synthetic is the best of any oil out there for the price...
Filters... Wix, Puralator Pure One, Mobil, Nissan...

Changing the oil is very very easy

Do it a few times and you'll never go back to paying someone to do it.

dont bother removing the splash guard b/c there is one bolt that usually breaks off. It holds the fender support so you need it. I have replaced both of them on both of my maxes.

I used to use supertech oils and filters. Then I used castrol GTX with a supertech filter. Now I use OEM filter and Mobil 1 sythetic oil.
