Could some one tell me why is it good to let your car warm up in the winter time (Im in ny).
This week was very cold, and i always find myself not warming up the car , Im always rushing. Everyone says that bad. Why?

 

People in the past were in the habit of letting the car idle in the driveway for many minutes to "warm up". This is worst for the car than driving it moderately.

You are better off not letting the car idle. Just start it, give it 30 seconds or so for the oil pressure to stabilize, then drive off. Avoid heavy acceleration and high speeds until the oil has had a chance to come up to operating temperature. That would be around 5 minutes or so.

 

Can someone explain why it's that bad for it your car to warm up for 5+minutes? I'm just curious because I use my remote start everyday and I let let it run for atleast 5 minutes.

 

because it heat soaks is one reason. another reason is that you need the oil to circulate and all the fluids needs to circulate.

 

The car warms up quicker under load(driving) than idling. Until operating temp is reached, the engine runs rich. That fouls the plugs, etc. Need I say more. Its best to run the car as soon as possible to quicken this process. Also running the engine at say 2-2.5k to warm up vs. just idle increases oil pressure to those vital areas that need lube, like camshafts, valves.
I thought the remote starter was because it cool as **** outside and I don't want to sit in the car until its warm.

 

all of the oils are sitting at the bottom of the pan it does not circulate till you put it in drive and the pumps really start working I'm in NYC too I usually wait a minute then go . I drive softly for about 5 min then boogie!!
