The Toronto Star had a write-up on prestige cars the other day & said that the Porsche Boxster (base) does 0-60 (0-100 here in Canada) in 6.6 seconds? Is that true? if we're supposed 2 b 6.7 seconds .. it s/ b a close race ... n e 1 ever dared this?

My grandmother has one (a Boxster S) and lets just say that the car isn't a joke. To get back on the subject, a REALLY well driven Maxima will beat a HORRIBLY driven Boxster. I the hands of the same person, I will almost guarantee that the Boxster would win every time. Maximas are great, but lets know when we are in over our heads.

No...but a mildly modified one would hang w/ the Boxster.

depends on the driver...

the boxter is nothing far from us on straight-aways. my friends had a 5spd boxter and it was nothing extremely great. the engine sounded pretty cool, but i've beat him once and he's beat me once. both were extremely close and was really judged by our take off. its got really great hadling though so you'll lose it without a doubt if youre chasing him.

Well when you think about it...

A 5th gen already has a couple advantages over the Boxter. First, there's horsepower. The Boxter(up to the 2k models) only makes 201hp, and of course, the Max puts out 222. I can't remember what the 2k and up figures for the Boxter are, but they can't be much higher, because they'd infringe on the Boxter S(250hp).
Next, there's displacement(which has a big effect on torque). Even with the new displacement increase(2.5L up to 2.7), the Boxster is still down from the Maxima's three liters. For that reason, the Maxima might have a torwue advantage too.

But, we all know the Boxter weighs less, so it really comes down to the driver. Most of the 0-60 times I've seen for the standard Boxster were in the low 6-sec range. So maybe with some mods, a 5sp Max with a good driver could take one.

i raced a boxter once on the highway...i had 3 other people in my car...he was behind me on the onramp and i let him pass me there which is when i saw he wanted to race...so i took off after him...it turns out that it was my friends neighbor (we both got off at the same exit etc.)...i'm not sure if it is an auto boxter or a stick, but this was when i was 100% stock (except for all of my ez-hp stickers)...i haven't had the chance to race one off the line yet, but i think that 2 drivers on an equal skill level, the boxter will at least take us to 80mph or so...remember, i work at a porsche/ferrari/jag/rr/bently etc. dealership and i drive boxters all the time...honestly 90% of the boxters we get in are driven wrong...they are beginners sports cars...almost every boxter we get in either has a burned out clutch, scratched or dented rims...i even had one in that had a chunk taken out of the rim and of the tire

i think the boxter will win w/ 2 equal drivers, but i won against this guy...he might have had a stick and didn't know how to drive but he might have had an auto...but he was defenitely racing (he saw all of my stickers and knew my car must have been fast)

Just how many Boxster owners have accidentally taken off the little boxy things on the back bumper? BTW, what do those things do?

racing

I will try anything... The hole point of racing is to have fun. It can still be fun even if you loose. Try it and see what happens. You never know, the guy driving the Porsche may miss a gear or he just stinks at driving. Racing the cars that you know you can beat I think gets old pretty quick. Make it a challenge, race the boxster.

Yeah beating or tying all the other ~3000 lb./200 HP cars is boring, go for a pickup or a TurboDiesel Challenge. They'll probably beat you 0-30.

what little boxy thing are you talking about? here is a pic of the back of the boxter...try to point it out to me...i've noticed a lot of boxter owners "shaving" off the Boxter text on the back of the car (like people don't know what it is)

yeah i see what you are talking about...i'm pretty sure those are just bumper guards because as i was saying before, most boxter drivers are beginners...i don't see tons of people that take them off because they probably leave spots on the paint or something

i 'raced' (used loosely) my friend who has a tiptronic 2k boxster non s (im stock auto), we didnt go much, only till i hit about 60, and he was at least 1 length away (i know coz i changed into his lane at that point)
before anyone throws the BS flag and asks how i knew he was racing.. he was following me somewhere and he purposely lane changed at a red light and gave me the signal.. and afterwards no excuses were given he was just like damn ..faster than i thought

If you happen to have your grandma in Arizona. I love to say it, but my Grandma is one of my best friends. She is really cool to hang out with. Too bad she moved last year. I keep telling her to sent the Boxster back to NY/CT, and I'll send out the Maxima. She keeps laughing at me.
