Leather Wrapper Stearing / Shifter

Does anyone have any good maintenace / upkeep tips on the leather wrapper stearing / shifter ****, my past vehicle had leather wrapped stearing and it eventually got very faded, and the leather would become sticky to my hands and actually rub off, being Im in florida and the blasted humity our hands get sweaty.. other then having to do driving gloves, any type of leather care stuff I can use on the wheel / shifter that will keep the oils / humidity from ruining them ?

Humm... A Ziploc? Just kidding. I use to live in Tampa, so I know what it is like.

I've never treated the leather on a steering wheel or shifter before. Because of the dry (and sometimes hot) climate where I live, I'll probably do what I'm suggesting when the car is about 3-years old. The accepted treatment for leather-bound books is to wipe the outside leather with Neatsfoot oil (available at the drug store). But this treatment is to keep the leather from drying out and cracking. It sounds like your problem is that the leather is already too damp and sticky. Neatsfoot oil would not help that problem. But Neatsfoot oil does help waterproof leather, so it might be worth considering. I would apply it sparingly and let the leather absorb the oil, otherwise it will be sticky.

Thanks for the input, Just trying to get a head start on my new 05 max , dont want it to end up doing the same as previous cars I had with the leather stearing! Is there anyone from Florida or hi humidity area who may also have suggestions?

What do you use for conditioning? Also have you found it effective with previous cars you may have owned with the leather stearing?
