What's up guys. I'm Danny, and hopefully a soon to be 6th gen. owner.
I'll be honest when I say I don't know much about the car, but I'm trying to learn as much as possible. First off...I saw a black maxima around with those HIDs and that just got my attention for good. I tried searching for some info the car and found out something that got me a little scepticle. I read that in the northeastern coast cars with HIDs are at risk from thieves just for the HIDs and the max is like top 3 on the list?! So I started looking for info on why the HIDs on this particular model are so desired. I came up with nothing. I couldn't find any information on..... What company makes 'these' HIDs?
The Kelvin temperature for bulbs?
The price? (why can't they just buy them instead of buying?!
And don't they sell rip offs on ebay?...I mean I checked and there's people selling one side headlight. (not the bulb, the whole thing) and who the hell is just gonna buy one side...I don't get it?
What is so special...doesn't every other Mercedes, BMW, Lexus...etc.?

Thanks in advance...I'll let you know how it goes...going for 2004 BLACK.

Welcome to the .org. Well, you're not in the northeastern coast, so you wouldn't have much to worry about. Plus its the 5th gens that are at risk mainly.

Correct, it looks like the 6th gens are in the clear for now.

Here is the pertinent portion of the article.

Investigators tell us the high-intensity discharge headlights are often stolen because they fit into earlier Maximas that were sold without such lights," Hazelbaker said. "This car was redesigned for 2004, and its new headlight assemblies don't fit previous generation models. It's too early to tell if the 2004s will still have a theft problem."

Welcome to the .org. The HIDs are for 5th generation Maximas. SO far the 6th gens are all good. I am also in the market for a new Maxi...

just buy one. test drive one and you'll fall in love. make sure you get an Onyx one though

welcome.
if you read through the old posts, you'll be able to teach your salesman a lot he doesn't know (or even want to know). do not let the negative threads deter you, but use them to know what to look for and you'll have the best car for your money out there.

Is it true?

Still curios for the HID owners...who makes them and such? I research some more and I guess the Kelvin temp. is like 41000k for the really bluish look...sorry I just can't get over how nice these are...

Thanks again you guys! _Danny

real HID are at 4100K, when you are up close to them its bright white. when you look at them from far away or at an angle, they turn blue/purple.

I bought my max with halogen. I got cheap and didnt want to get the package for the xenon.

I then upgraded to hid buy buying a philips ballast and philips d2s bulbs. I also bought audi bi-xenon projectors. cost of everything 350 shipped. I did the work myself. I'm happy with the outcome.

Cars around my neighborhood are getting their headlights stolen. audi tl's, es300's, maxs.

A freind of mine is a cop and was telling me that this poor guy had halogen and the idiots still stole his headlights. he actually put a sign in his car that said no xenon, but they still robbed it again.

I'm glad a have a garage and thats where she sleeps!

anyways, welcome Danny.

Philips d2s 4100k are the real xenon bulbs found in bmw, nissan, caddy, audi, etc...

I'm not happy with those japanese hid kits.
