motivational rear strut mounts

I've read about these and I know everyone says that if your car is lowered, these make a huge difference for the rear suspension. Sounds good, I will probably get them since my car is lowered, but I have one question..

Are these only necessary for the cheaper suspension setups, or do the better quality coilover setups already have these? I was planning on buying the JIC FLT-A2 coilovers for my 96 and I thought these already had something like the motivational rear strut mounts built in from the factory?

Also guys, please try to post only if you know for a fact, not speculations, because suspension is VERY IMPORTANT as most of you Max owners know! Thanks as always guys...

With JICs you can adjust the travel and height seperately, which makes the motivational rear mounts pointless. Also the JICs top mount goes in place of where the motivational mount would be. So even if you wanted to use one, you couldn't.

Motivational does not make rear mounts for our cars any more.

But I do See the links in my sig.

Anyway, the JICs come with a new rear upper assembly. My mounts won't work with them.

There is no doubt that these mounts make a very noticeable difference in the handling and ride comfort of the Maxima, lowered or not.

So the JICs are definitely the best coilover/spring setup for the Maximas?

Also, what is the overall best setting to put the JICs at if I want my car to be very low?

I been seeing this product around but was never sure about how this improves or adds suspension travel til I visited the link on mzmtg's sig. So to make sure I understand this correctly, these mounts go between the rear shock and the mounting plate of the shock tower. The motivational bolts onto the stock shock mounting location on the tower, then the shock mounts to the plate on the motivationals thus moving the shock further down to the ground. Is this how it adds more suspension play? And I assume this pretty much eliminates shock bottom-outs.

The mounts move the top of the strut piston up relative to the top of the spring. When the top of the piston is moved up, the strut body (attached to the wheel) can come up farther before it hits the bumstop.

Ok, now I'm lost. I have never seen a photo of this thing so I cannot mentally visualize how it changes things in there.

Stock mount: ____________
Spring ------>~~ \____/ ~~
Piston------------> II

Bens mount: ____________
Spring------->~~ II ~~
Piston----------->II

Pretty crude, but that should give you the idea.

Smackdown85, I believe this link will answer your questions: http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaCoilovers . Briefly, this is what it says: " Complete coilover systems were designed from the ground up to be racing suspensions that have a very high level of adjustment and also will ride very stiff at the stock spring rates. JIC FLT-A2 is fully integrated race coilover system. Probably the best track suspension setup in existance for the maxima." All I know is this will be too stiff for daily street driving and probably uncomfortable at that. Reminds me of the coilover set-up I had in my previous 4x4. It rode very stiff on-road but great off-road.

Got it, thanks guys. I'll be putting in a set of GR2's real soon, I'll add this to the parts list in addition to front strut bearings.

I'm just gonna start a JIC thread to check out opinions of people who actually have them.

JIC's been rumored to have poor customer service on other boards. If you're not tracking the car might I suggest Cattman's Progress system? Last I heard he had about 10 units in stock for 4th gens. They use the stock strut mounts for comfort instead of pillowballs.

I thought pillowballs are the best?

Depends on how you define "best."

Pillowballs allow no deflection of the mounts at all. This is "best" for absolute control and handling. However, they transmit tons of noise and vibration to the car.

Rubber OEM type mounts give up a little precision, but are much quieter and more comfortable.

Hey ben, Any chance you have one of those exploded views for the front suspension?

Cool, thanks. You don't have you with the names that correspond to the numbers like the rear? I'd really like a full view like the rear suspension...this is good too though.

That's the rear. I was hoping he had one like that for the front.

I figured the parts on the front and rear are pretty relative, give or take one or two parts. I'll have to compare both of them now.

Ok, after comparing the two, I think the following are not present in the front strut/assembly (please correct me if I'm wrong):

1) washer
2) top and bottom bushings
3) upper spring seat cover

Other than that, I think everything looks the same (before the boots).
