Installing a 2k2 Maxima Auto Tranny in 2001 Maxima!

I might have to install a new auto tranny in my soon to be 2001 Maxima. I Was wondering if I can install a 2k2 transmission along with the gated shifter in the 2001 Maxima? Any information will be highly appreciated!

Convert to manual?

I know the 6 speed conversion is a lot of work to swap into a car that does not have it before hand because of the cable shifting. I don't know of anyone who has converted to a 2k2-2k3 auto. A 2k4 has a 5 speed auto so you would probably want to try to get that tranny if you could.

If it bolts on you would have to get the tranny computer and harness for that right?

Just curious, why won't you go to manual instead of auto?

I was hoping you would step in I might end up getting the 04 5Speed Auto tranny for this swap. How does the gated shifter differ from regular 00-01 ones?

Cant go manual. Already have my 97 5speed.

No idear, however ECU-->TCM on 2K2+ are pretty interconnected, so if/how you get those two to play together might be the bigger question.

I was under the impression that they were diffrent as far as the internals. I remember reading somewhere, before the 2k2s were out in dealerships that Nissan "beefed" up that tranny a little.

I read that too. I think Ice was talking about the 2001 tranny.

Could be, I was referencing the gear ratios/final drive/model number, IIRC are all the same.

I wouldn't be surprised if they changed something to accomodate the additional torque, however it could be the gated shift linkage is all.

I thought the FD was different? 3.789 vs 3.619?

Or is that just with 4th gens?
