Y-pipe will it Fail Pennsylvania Emission Test?

I need a 100% solid answer to this. My emissions test needs done by the end of Jan... Will the warpspeed y-pipe fail the Pennsylvania emissions test?

***Anyone from PA who has gone through the emission test with an aftermarket y-pipe please comment on what you went through... thanks!

Why not wait a week to put the Y-pipe on since January is almost over (3 days)

I guess I forgot to mention that my exhaust muffler section pipe busted in half and they already failed me for inspection and emissions. I need to get that replaced and wanted to have them put on the ypipe at the same time. Plus I would like to know what I will have to do for next year.

Even if you ONLY have the main catalytic converter (the one between the y-pipe and b-pipe), you should pass the emissions part of the test as long as the car is warmed up. I don't know about the visual inspection. That all depends on whether or not the mods are legal in your state.

In PA, it's not as long as your car is "warmed up"--AFAIK you just don't roll into a government-run shop and get tested, you have to be tested by a local shop (at least in York County), so they usually keep it around for a few hours until they can get to it (in which case it may cool down).

I would hesitate to install the Y-pipe now. For one thing, does the shop know you want it installed? Technically it is illegal to do so, as it removes one of the precats, which is a federal offense (I think?)

As for whether you would fail with it on, that's hard to say--if it throws an SES light, you will fail for SURE. Installing the O2 simulator would prevent that from happening.

But if the shop does their own visual check and finds that and knows what it is, they'll probably fail you anyway.

Avoid the frustration--wait until after emissions to install your Y-pipe.

(note I haven't installed my Y-pipe yet...)

The PA people are here. My friend had a y-pipe on his 99 max and passed, but this year he made the mistake of going to nissan to have it done. They failed him I believe because they saw the y-pipe I don't think it came up on the machine. BTW last year he had it done at another nissan dealership so that just makes me wonder even more.

One thing you can try is find a local mom and pop type place and call ahead. Ask if you can get it done right away because you can't leave the car for long. Then cruise in with a fully warmed up car to pass the sniffer test (recent oil change helps too) and make sure there's nothing else they might ding you on. Usually helps if you've been going to the same guys for a few years and they know you.
