compression

i'm planning on doing an all motor build in the near future. i'm planning on buying the JWT valve springs, JWT camshafts and to have them mod my computer, and have a port and polish job done on the head at a local machine shop. now my question is, are there any pistons that will fit in the lower end to up the compression for a few extra ponies? and help would be greatly appreiciated. thx

Supposedly the Z31 cams are cheaper than the JWT, if you want another option. As for the pistons, I am sure there are high-compression ones available, but I don't know specifics. Good luck.

VG30DE high comp pistons and the stock VG30DE(TT) rods is your answer.

You'd have alot less in turbo charging and have better results with out a engine overhaul! Especialy a VG!
Do a search on my screen name or Mtcookson's... worth a look before spending 2000.00 on a built engine for .5 off your 1/4 time.

i agree... on our engines turbo is the way to go. especially when you compared the torque numbers of a n/a engine to a turbo engine... for instance:

Hekimian Racing 300 hp N/A VG30E
300 hp @ 7,000 rpm
240 ft. lb. torque @ 5,500 rpm

Stock... 84 300ZX Turbo
200 hp @ 5,200 rpm
227 ft. lb. torque @ 3,600 rpm

Right there... the torque is only 13 ft. lb. less than the Hekimian Racing performance engine. Albeit that engine vs a stock Z will put the Z into the dust but that's just showing what a turbo can do.

I've seen a dyno of a stock 87-89 300ZX with the boost turned up to 15 psi... no other changes.
It produced about 250 rwhp and over 300 ft. lb. of torque. Being rwd lets say it has 20% drivetrain losses. That'd be about 315 bhp and 375 ft. lb. torque at the flywheel. That's with 8.3:1 compression (which is a bit too low imo) at 15 psi with a very inneficient, very small, 80's turbo charger. All that basic technology just totally destroyed a $8,950 engine with an engine you could pick up for 500 bucks or less...
