Brake Maintenance / Upgrade
Hey guys...does anyone have a copy of the service manual for the Gen 2 Maximas and a scanner? If so can you upload a scan of the pages on taking off the brake assembly. Need to know if the rotors are pressed on (which will mean it'll be a pain in the butt) or if they are a quick job. Thanks
I dont have a scanner but I can tell you how to do it. Front: take of the calipers and they fall off. Rear: take of caliper, take out catter (sp?) pin in the axle, then take of axle nut, then the roter can be pulled off...when you do this the bearings are in there as well so be careful not to get crap on them. Also the axle nut is only hand tight the spikey ring and cotter pin holds it on. Also while I did mine I re greased my bearing with wheel bearing grease....its red in color and stinks! This is an easy job, just post if you get hung up but it is straight foward.

One inportant note on the rear assembly!
When installing new pads, retract the piston into the cylinder body by turning it clockwise. I used a big pair of long-nosed pliers, maybe hard to turn but it will go back in. I finally made a special socket with 4 pins on it to do this job. (no more slipping) Once you get the pads off you'll know what I'm talking about.
On the front pistons you can use a c-clamp to push it back into the cylinder.
Good Luck, AL

Any idea where i can pick up this tool or a link with a pic of the tool? Thanks
I know we have some OEM-copycat tools for rear brakes at Pep Boy's. Some of them look like a metal cube with little round protrusions and indentations to fit into the brakes. I'm not sure, however, if we have the Nissan one, might be worth calling or checking some parts stores.
