coolant leaking on 93 gxe
coolant leaking on 93 gxe
it has been leaking for several month, but recently, it become worse. I saw some green liquid on the parking lot, that is how i get to know about this problem.
The place where i can see coolant drops is between oil pan and the right wheel, but i can not figure out where it come from. water pump? the previouse owner replaced the TB and WP 2 or 3 years ago, generally how long will a water pump last? If it is not the water pump, what kind of problem it could be? Thanks.

probably the water pump.
a pumps lifespan is determined by the quality put into said part.
they can go in 90 days (typical rebuilt) or go for the cars life (top quality aftermarket unit)

zhusst....I am having the exact same problem on my 92 gxe in the same exact spot. I haven't had time to check the water pump yet but I did find some other useful information the other day at this website:
http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/...dex.cfm/id/2078
It says this:
Coolant leak: Coolant may leak from the front of the cylinder head, which may appear to be a head gasket, but comes from a threaded plug in the front of the head. (1990-94)[I]
Like I said, I haven't checked it out yet, but if you do, reply back on this post so I know where to start. Hope it helps....

I think the problem started before this winter, when i replaced the right CV boot. I did not finished the job in the first day because i can not remove the axle, so i leave the car jacked up in the parking lot for one night. Next morning, i start to see some coolant on the ground. Are there anything wrong i probably have done caused the problem or the problem has been there and what i did just "triggered' it?
Beau92gxe, the link does not work now, but i do see some black dust-oil mix on the engine block behind the dipstick for engine oil, if it is the head gasket,i am in trouble now
BTW, now i just keep an eye on the coolant level and add some now and then, will see what i can do after the weather warm up

The system should be pressurized to get heads adequately cooled. Now its not.

if as you said the heads are not cool now, the gasket will burn out much faster?
I did not believe, if u are as stupid as I am, u do not either... My leaking 2gen lasted 30k before the gasket blew with a bang. Nice towing, eh?
Getting the leak out with 50$ ? is less than 1000 (=towing, stanby, bent head machining, new gaskets, bolts whatever...)?
The reason for blown gasket, bent heads are the air pockets -THAT ARE NOW THERE- that u cannot see, feel, hear. Hot spots inside the engine doing their ugly job.

My water pump started leaking slowly, dripped near the right front passenger wheel. But mine was near 120K, so had the 120K waterpump/tbelt service. Mine had slowly dripped. Finally noticed when lost heat function, and months later car nearly overheated. Overflow bottle was empty. Radiator was down a good deal of fluid. I'd check both levels when the engine is cold.
