Interesting idle when revving, manual tranny only.....
Interesting idle when revving, manual tranny only.....
just seeing if anyone ever had this occur to them or understand WHY this would occur.
example...you're driving...whether it be 20,30,40, 90,100, and you pop it into neutral and let the car coast. rpm needles drops, almost touches ~300 rpm, then settles at the normal 750.
another example is coming to a stop. i'm on 2nd gear. i press on the breaks and pop it in neutral. this time it does the same thing, but since i'm almost at a stop, i feel the car shudder a bit because of the low low rpm, but then it settles back at the normal 750.
what gives? anyone care to add some thought?

i'd be worried if this was the first time. it's been happening for the longest time. i'd say 6 months, and i'd say more but i just don't remember. it's happened so much that i considered it common.
Mine does that when I haven't cleaned the throttle body in about 8 months.
Everytime I give it a good clean, especially on and around the throttle plate, the problem goes away. Might be worth a try for you. Let us know how it goes.

I also recommend a TB cleaning.
I have a 2K2 6-speed and pop it into neutral like you described quite frequently and my RPMs never dip to 300 before returning to normal. The tach falls quickly from whatever RPMs I am at until about 1300 and then the revs starts to fall more slowly until it gently settles in to the idle 750-800 RPM range.

I've got a 2K 5 speed and when i pop it into neutral, it never drops to 300 rpm. Like BigFly said the rpm drops to about 1300 and gradually goes down to 800 rpm (normal idle after warmup). Sounds like the MAF.
I have the same, but not to that extent, and this started right after instalation of Berk Intake...the car never stalled though, and put on about 50K mi ever since. Is it happening to anyone who's running with stock airbox?

fyi, i have an injen.
an update to this thread. i had the TB cleaned today by a dear friend that works at a nissan dealership. also had the consult-II, so we were able to snoop around my settings.
a few things to note
1)the low idle WAS caused by a dirty TB. my idle is SMOOTH and back to normal, which is a great thing.
2)the butterfly in the TB is electronically controlled, or at least for my 2k2 it is. it's placement is what creates our idle. in the past, people have just pushed the butterfly and cleaned TB, which in a sense is not a bad thing. you are not damaging anything, but by you physically moving it, you have just messed up it's electronic placement. this is why most people have rough or high idle after an TB cleaning. we had the consult, so he did the idle re-learn using the consult. this is an FYI for those in the future wanted to clean their TB's.
3) he also played around with some settings in my car. i have a +1 on my timing now. previously, it was at -1. this is a result of bad gasoline and the ecu retarding it to avoid problems. i will be testing this new timing with a different gas station and we will see if it changes back to -1 in about 2/3 weeks.
EDIT: fyi, normal idle is between 613 and 625, as per the consult II.
