After reading the thread about "what you like about your max", i started to ponder this question.

Is the price you paid for your MAX (general Max. prices) worth it? What other car, if any, would you buy thats in teh same $ range as the max.

 

At $1100 couldn't be more happier.
I Def. would not get a honda for this price and i know i can. I'm happy with my Max.

 

Yeah mine were awesome. $15,300 for my 00 back in late 02, and $6k for my 97 in Apr/04. Both have been great, and superb purchases

Sure is. Cost me the equivalent of 3,200$US for a 95 in October '04. Ride is great, good power, extremely clean interior for a 10 year old car.

 

Paid $17,850 and I've gotten over 195k relatively trouble-free miles out of it.

Hell yes it's worth it.

 

what exactly is an avg price right now for say a 98 GLE? cuz i paid $8900 and it booked for $10500. but im seeing maxes from the east that are mad cheap

 

97 SE 5spd leather, climate control, homelink, sunroof, bose with changer. paid 12,500 for it in 2000 (bought it from my cousin who bought it new). would love a 300z TT but it just hauls @ss, not 4 people and golf bags.

well seeing how a max loses its value rather quickly i think we got a good car for the price. but that doesnt mean it doesnt have its fair share of issues

 

look at it this way.....your average detroit vehicle will depreciate faster than you pay down the loan, and once out of warranty will drive you near bankrupcy. I bought my Tahoe 3 years old for less than half of the new sticker price and between repairs and depreciation its averaged about $2800/year to own....my maxima's have been well under $1000/year in depreciation and repairs (all were purchased used).

don't flame me on this....just giving an honest answer:
An Altima is a fine car...but the value of a used maxima is tough to beat. I think the Mazda 6 may be reasonable competition for the altima, but reliability is an unknown...and that is the closest competition from the big three in my opinion. Camry's are solid, but bland. Honda's are obviously good, but not a performance car. I would steer away from VW for reliability and cost of repair reasons.

 

Cars (specifically New Cars) are the WORST investment (if you want to call it that). What else can you buy, and within 10 minutes of owning it have it drop in value something like 20%.

So, No - no car is worth what it costs you.

 

A car is a terrible thing to spend your money on. It loses value from the second you buy it and it very rarely, if ever, increases in value. That being said, I bought my '99 GLE Max new. It currently has 157,xxx on it and I would not trade it for anything. There is a ton of life left in my girl. I hope to own it when there is 300,000+ on the clock. Compared to a domestic vehicle the Max is a super value both in reliability and cost to own. Compared to other Japenese models the Max is above them also. Compared to German cars - ie the BMW and Benz - the Max is cheaper and just as reliable to own. Maybe the "status" isn't there but everything else is.

All in all, I would say my Max is / has been worth what I paid for her.

 

I gotta disagree. my 92 maxima for $600 was worth every penny! As for the 98, it may not be valued as high as the price i paid but it's still valuable to me!

The Maxima is one of those cars that the German auto builders and drivers like to forget. Efficiency, style, reliability, comfort, longevity, and performance at a great price. BMW and Audi can't touch it in terms of value.

I don't want to get into a redneck Ford/Chevy/Dodge debate.

 

Humm your post reminds me of a bunch of friends of mine. "go and get you self a new max". I love my 99 SE Heated seats, climate control, 4 air bags, track contol.. all the goodies. Before this max I owner a 01 aniversary edition. I didn't like the ride. I sold it in 4 months with 3k miles on it. Took a beating.. But got back into a 4 gen. And best of all NO PAYMENTS

 

The more mileage it racks up the more value it returns.

I like the no car payment thing too.

 

eh, maybe, maybe not. it was good as a first car, but if i knew what i know now 2 years ago, i would have gotten an s14, which is what im getting this summer anyways. its a fun car. easy to work on, but when i think about how much money i need to put into it to make it somewhat fast, and to even keep it running, its so not worth it.

 

paid 8000 for my 98 max SE 5spd with 75k miles....fully loaded...leather....sunroof.....havent had much problems....just normal wear and tear issues...overall pretty happy

 

6500 bux for a 96 SE almost fully loaded minus the climate control and leather with 89K miles and almost perfect conditon (previously driven by old man, with good taste in cars), this was a def. steal at that price, for me that is.

 

It's too early for me to tell if it's worth it. I paid 12,750 for my 99 White SE-L 5 weeks ago. I paid way too much from most people's perspective.

But from my perspective, I bought a $30,204 car with 34,640 miles, excellent leather int, dual power seats, heated seats, homelink, front/side airbags, TCS, moonroof, aftermarket window tint, new tires/brakes, etc.... I think the 4th gen might be the best looking gen as well. Although, they all look great in their own way from my view.

Financially, I'll find out if it's worth it. Emotionally, it already is.

 

I think it has been sorta worth it. I sold my 98 GMC Sonoma ZR2 for $8000 and picked up my Maxima for $4000. The price difference cover the $3000 in repairs to that truck in 6 months. But, I was sick of my system at the time and left it in the truck, now I wish I hadn't. The downside is, that I have spent alot of money repairing the Maxima. I hit a snowbank causing $2000 in damage, only had to pay $500 with insurance though. And I have had to put a new transmission, clutch, all 4 brakes, a bunch of sensors and other stuff in the past year. Even though my car can be a pain in the *** because something is always wrong with it, I love it and am planning on keeping it a long time.

 

eh ive had some trouble... but i think its worth it
