what am i gaining by going with adjustables over the regular non adjustable? is it ride comfort?

 

The ability to go from a firm spots car ride to a soft luxury car ride in under a minute.

 

im on h&r's and regular non-adjustable kyb's. im looking to improve the ride quality in the car. how much of difference would there be if i swapped out the struts and got adjustables? what ones are suppose to be the better adjustables to get?

 

Go for the illumina's. You can go from stock ride to tight.

Most importantly, you can adjust the shocks to adequately (but not overly) control the springs you choose. Unless your springs are custom matched to dampers, it's helpfull to be able to adjust them a bit. On my Tokico springs, settings of 2f/2r feels adequately damped around town, but on the highway it feels too floaty. Also, you can firm up the rears a bit (ie 3f/4r) to dial out a bit of understeer and make your cars handling more neutral. IMO get the Illuminas. I'm very happy with mine, and most others are too.

 

Struts are supposed to be set to match the springs. If you have stiff springs then you need tight struts. Adjustibles are supposed to be able to match better to more springs. Ride comfort will be affected.

Tokico tend to ride better than KYBs. I have Illuminas (5,5) and Eibachs but I don't mind a harsh ride.

H&R are actually reasonably soft springs. I am not sure why you are complaining. The only thing softer is stock.

you can check ebay for new struts/shocks, I dont know that max bible site off my head, but there had a link to where to buy for a good price, or just good search for maxima Illumina shocks, and you should get a few links


you can you wont be lowered but you should have a smoother ride.

 

if i didn't have $ but wanted to improve the handling, I woulda done this. However, my 1st mod woulda been rsb.

dont know what im complaing about? i have about 4 grand worth of bent rims sitting outside, and i had to line half the panels in my car with 1/2 foam to keep them from rattling.. drive my car for a week, (which only has 80,000 miles on it) and youll see..
