Which one to buy????

Hey guys, my mom owns a 01 SE that i drive around, im in the market to get a 5th gen also. Here are my options a 00-01 Stick or settle with a 02-03 Automatic? i really want a stick, but is a 00-01 stick faster than the 02-03 automatics? i kno there's a hp diff, but im stuck on which to get. Help me out which one is quicker stock?

Look in the org classified's, there are always a bunch of 5 & 6-speeds lurking around.

Definetly the 02-03 stock is faster then 00-01 5spd or auto. There are a lot of 02-03 6spd for sale on the forum..

Here's couple..

A 5spd 00/01 will keep up with an auto 02/03 no problems. Provided you're a good driver.

I say just wait until you find a 6speed. There are like 5 for sale in the autotrader around me. I know your way down in FL but you will find something eventually.
If for some reason you cannot wait and must decide...... I would MUCH rather just get the 2k2 auto, but if you really want stick than just get that otherwise you will be kicking yourself and risk being unhappy. You can always make a 2k or 2k1 just as fast as an auto 02'. 01' 5spd with ypipe, intake, and catback should have no trouble running with an auto 02 and even putting some distance on it. That right there is less than $800 in performance mods.

try to wait for a 2k2 6spd.

if not, and you really want stick then get an 01' 5spd and throw a couple mods in it. It will be just as fast as an 02' but will lack the torque and acceleration from the extra .5L of displacement. If its not completely necessary to have stick, then by all means, get the auto.

no point in "settling" for anything, you'll regret it later. Just wait until the car you want is available....that's what I did (hard to find a loaded black SE 5-speed with leather here in traffic-jam city, I waited several weeks to find one)....

I'll admit that I really enjoy driving a stick with a lot of power...it is a lot of fun. And there are times when I wish I'd gotten a manual Max. BUT, there are also those times when I'm in heavy traffic, or doing a lot of stop-and-go driving with friends in the car, when I am glad I have the Auto. Maybe it's a subconcious thing, but I somehow feel like manuals should be reserved for sports coupes. ( please no flaming) And, with that feeling, goes the one that family sedans, even those with 200+ hp, should have autos. Just my .02.

You're just mad you don't have a 6spd.. .. I looked for a 00-01 5 spd for several weeks, then "settled" for a fully loaded SE AUTO. I ran out of patienz.. i'm not really regretting my auto, i love it, but i'd love it a little more if it was 5 spd, besides I LOVE my black leather

You get to drive a car with a stick and just ride in a car with a slushbox! Although if you were getting a paddle shift auto like the new Infiniti M has on it, that would be different!

Hold out for the stick man! Hold out for the stick!

Of course this is only my opinion....

I like everyone else advise you to wait, I search everyday for damn near 8 months til I found a Maxima I was happy with in terms of price and mileage and that was a stick, ended up with a 2k 5spd with 29k on it for 12,000....certified pre-owned with a warranty and all of this at a Nissan Dealer, New Years eve was a good day to buy a car, the manager wanted desperately to move the car off the lot to make room for his new models coming in so i was able to take it from 14,500 to 12,000

so just keep lookin man.

A year ago I looked and looked and I didnt settle...Obviously getting exactly what you want when looking for a used car is tougher than buying new, but I tell you they are out there. I wanted a Black 02 SE 6spd with charcoal cloth and a moonroof with no leather and no Bose and low miles. I didnt think I was going to find one but after 6 weeks, I got one for $16k in upstate NY with 26k and jumped on it. Then I found out AFTER I bought it that it has HLSD. I couldn't have been more satisfied. Be persistent and it will pay off!
