When cornering above 40mph cars sways.Happens turning left or right. Had a flat tire and replaced both rear tires with new ones and moved rears to front. Tire pressure correct in all tires. Any idea's ?

 

Are you on stock springs? If so...drop it like it's hot.

might want to consider a rear sway bar (RSB) (a.k.a. rear anti-sway bar)

also.... being new to the forum, spend a good amount of time looking through old posts, it'll save yourself a bunch of time and reposts and you'll learn alot. but as far as the sway, def drop or get a front strut bar and/or rear sway....

 

man if you get the RSB it will make a huge difference, when I installed mine it felt like a completly different car..feels soo much tighter on turns and so sporty..the best suspension mod i've done so far

 

... and while you're doing all that... a LTB too...

 

LTB don't clear my HS headers or my JIC FLTA2 3.5" drop :P

 

Any bets the guy bought some cheap tires with weak side walls? Falken 512s or Hankook HRiis? Obviously the guy didn't have the problem with the older tires, so unless the shop messed with his suspension, it's got to be the crappy tires.

My advise is go back to the shop and exchange them for better tires.

Edit: A couple other crappy tire guesses: Cooper Lifeliners or Nitto 450s

Why not have Matt make you a custom LTB that will clear?

I can't imagine not having my St2 LTB on.....even if it's gonna screw me in SCCA this summer.....

 

Yeap that's me! Screw cheap tires. BTW, Matt talked about changing his jig to make the stage IIs fit around headders, but my guess is that he's too busy with the the BBKs to even get to the LTB (how much demand is there vs. the BBKs?).

scurve, it's the cheap tires. Go back to the shop and see if you can exchange them. Squeeze the side walls with your thumbs before they are mounted on the rims to see how much "give" the sidewalls have. Compare the new tires to the stiffness of the tires you replaced to get an indication (Potenza RE92 I presume). Also, try the sidewalls of Potenza RE040s and see how stiff the are.

As Irish hinted, I had the same issue with a set of four Falken 512s and will not let those companies sell cheapo tires if I can have anything to do with that. With the 512s, not only was there a wiggle in the turns, but the steering respone was the worst I've ever felt. I'm still shopping for summer tires so I can't give you a recommendation on what to buy (only what not to buy).

 

It'd probably be too low even with the Progress drop I have, having seen Josh's clearance even with Maxspeeds....

 

but I've only scraped once and that was when I tried to turn into a switchback driveway ridge and forgot about the bar....SCRRRRAAAAPPPE haha...

oh, I also managed to straddle a piece of styrofoam that caught on the bar at 55mph...kind of funny looking in the rearview and seeing little bits of styrofoam shooting up behind the car as it wore down until I could pull over!

CCS...I guess it all comes down to driver. I thought the 512's were "acceptable", but not stiff enough for my liking. They did, however, hold up well to our heavily-potholed streets and did well in rain/snow. For someone driving the maxima as a "family car" I think they're a great tire, especially for the price. For someone driving as a sports sedan though, they are too soft....

That said, I absolutely LOVE my Proxes 4...even on 18's the ride is superior and comfortable. I have not yet been able to roll the sidewalls (running 36-34 psi f-r). They grip like a **** and I can't seem to get them to squeal even on the most aggressive highway exits......Are they UHP summer tires? No. Are they a superior, inexpensive A/S tire? Yes. By the way, they are the quietest tire I've ever owned in terms of road noise, esp on the highway.

RE92 < Falken 512 < Pilot A/S < Proxes 4 as far as A/S tires are concerned, in my book.

 

Yes, and in scurve's case, the $100 Avons aren't making it...

My suggestions for him in the all season category are to check out the Turanza LS-Vs or the Pilot Sport A/S.
