New to the forum and new owner of a 99 Maxima SE Limited... What's up everyone!

I just recently upgraded my car from a 93 Maxima to a 99 Maxima with 75K miles. I don't know what the previous owner has done as far as general maintenance so I was thinking of flushing out all of the fluids (coolant, auto tranny, engine oil) and replacing the spark plugs. Do you guys have any recommendations for what I should do? Thanks for your input. I appreciate all of your help.

I agree with replacing the fluids. I suspect the plugs have already been changed, but you should check that out. What condition is the air filter in - I am assuming the car is stock. If the plugs are in fair shape and the air filter is in good condition, it might be safe to say that the car had 60 K service. If not, the fuel filter should probably be replaced.

Help on auto tranny flush

Are there any "how to's" for a 4th gen Maxima on this forum? I've been looking around but haven't found anything yet. Anyone know where I can find something like this? Thanks in advance.

Familiarize yourself with the stickies in the 4th Gen forum. How To's are 2nd from the top. Also get a Haynes or Chilton manual. I recently bought the Haynes which many seem to prefer.

Welcome to the Club. I too own a '99. The motor in these cars is great. I would replace the plugs with NGKs. That way you know who did the work and that it was done correctly. I would also change the oil and filter. Put in a good synthetic like Amsoil or Red Line. I have used synthetic oil from the beginning with my Max and she purrs like a kitten. 159,763 on the clock and still running like day one. Opinions vary on synthetics vs mineral...that's my $.02. Change out the trans fluid as well. Again, I use a synthetic but that's me. Its easy to drain and fill the pan every time you change the motor oil if you use mineral ATF. Its cheap and easy. The pan holds about 5qts.

Read the stickies. They are fantastic and packed with information.

Oh...change the air filter. IMHO you should go with a K&N or Amsoil stage 2 filter that will last many, many miles and years. The anti-freeze is simple too. Once per year I drain and refill with a 50/50 mix.

Your Max is like a woman. Treat her right and she will treat you right for many years, and miles, to come. Welcome and good luck

CHeck out the stickies at the top of the 4th gen forum. There is a wealth of knowledge about mods and how to's.

You also might want to check out the condition of the power steering fluid. You could change it if necessary using the turkey baster method or take it somewhere and have it flushed.
