instrument cluster

I've seen some guys here (particularly sarin, right?) convert their gauge cluster from black to brushed aluminum and from green lighting to blue lighting. what are some good companies/websites to check for this? I've checked common ones like APC, they have nothing like that. if it isn't a p***y honda or acura, APC doesn't make it. I've seen just the aluminum overlays on e-bay. but I wanna change the stock lighting to the blue like you see on the newer VWs. any ideas?

and yes... I checked the stickies first..

Mine instrument cluster went back from the silver/blue back to stock when they burnt out. Actually with my gauges, they were reverse indiglos, so the only thing using the stock lighting is the needles and the odometer. Just do a search on Ebay or Google to reverse indiglos. You are bound to find some for almost any car now a day.

go to procarparts.com and search for the reverse gages for 86-88 same difference unless you have digital dash.

Its at procarparts.com. $49.90 I believe. Of course when they first came out they were like half that but still good. They are a good company too, I had a messed up tach gauge and they sent me a whole new set excluding the box unit for free.

Also, Sarin if you havent gotten any again. Try back there. My box burnt out too. When I got some new ones it seems they switched the company that makes them because the blue color looks more blue than the hyperwhite/bright blue they were before. It is still bright just a deeper blue. Ive had them for months now.

Actually, they aren't. 85-86 are the same, 87-88 are slightly different. Oil pressure gauge reads 0-120psi on the 87-88 vs. 0-90 psi. Also if you look at the tach, on the 85-86 all the numbers in redline are read, where the 87-88's are white with red hash lines by them. Also depending on the year....87-88's have needles that are more orangish, and the 85-86's have more yellowish needles.

Sarin,
After this discription, I have to wonder how much surgery my car has had in the past...it's an early 87 (Manu'ed in late '86), and has the 85-86 cluster you are referring to, but has the later model style front bezel, where the stereo opening is a full double-DIN. Also, I have the failure prone power belts that were released in the mid-to-late released 87 models.

My steering wheel is the SE style, from a burned 88 SE...but I didn't get the column covers, so it looks a little off, with my grey covers, and the black wheel...

I'm surprised you have an interior, and not a roll cage.

but I guess I shouldn't give you any ideas.
anyway, back to sentra.net

You can usually get them off without a puller, I didn't have one with me when I pulled an SE wheel at the wrecker. Just loosen the sterring wheel nut, and then brace your knees behind the wheel putting pressure on it. Now using a socket extension and a hammer give the steering shaft a couple good whacks and it should pop. Mine did and so did the SE I got my wheel from.
