Going spoiler-less kinda sucks...

My original trunk that had the spoiler was all rusted and nasty at the ends of the spoiler, so I got a new trunk, but one without a spoiler. I thought it might look good, but ugh....it looked naked or something. It took a major edge off the appeal of the car. Maybe when the rims and suspension go on it will look good, but it looks plain and ugly for now. Anybody else regret not having a spoiler?

lolz i remember when jay took off his wing.. omg i miss that thing. it just that you get used to seeing a car a certain way, then after you change it it just doesn feel right, then you just over look it

I think that red car looks better without the spoiler, but then again its clean, has a body kit and rims.....

Mr. Gone, yea the trunk flies up now, if I use the trunk pop, it slams up.....nuts

The car looks good either way. Without it gives it that nice expensive luxury car look.
With it gives it a look of a veteran street racer.

But rims and suspension do help with how it'll look. Hold out till you get those done... if it still doesn't look right, throw on a wing. Easier to do it that way, then having to pull the wing back off.

Reversibly right. Spoil might be shaving off be 10mph from top speed - as it sucks, degrades functionality.. And whats the use for "F1 rearwheel press" in fwd car? Sucking press (=spoil) is really needed only in rwd -car for pushing when stuck in green lights during snow&ice.

'Nicest' anti spoil er -movement I have seen: Lada 1200cc with 2x4" 'spoiler'...

Have to balance: yes, some spoilers are nice looking. And maybe it belongs to some: wikings are not wikings without horns in the tinhat...

I like mine much better without the spoiler. Then again I like it because its kitted and lowered.

I think that spoilers look better on the non kitted maximas though.

I agree.

Without a kit or a spoiler, they look naked. You should have one or the other.

the max looks better without a spoiler, and look at it this way, you don't have to worry about it coming off.

The stock spoiler adds nothing to the top speed. It's just there to make the car look ugly.

i am glad there are things called opinions and things called fact.

yours would be the first option. As for the spoiler it is to make the rear lower as air passes over the car and out the back. Why else would they put it there for? Just for kicks and toss money away. If it wasnt functional why would auto makers test them in wind tunnels? it not a boost in performance per say, just in functionality.

OEM spoiler is functionless. If not for the obvious design and quality then I should know by evidence; I tested my car's top speed with and after I shaved it.

did you test high speed turns? spoiler adds rear downforce at high speed so it is more stable in high speed cornering not for top speed or going straight

i like the spoiler, i think it adds personality to the car, the car does look like an old ladies car without it. but the spoiler is way too small for any performance issues. the HUGE "WINGS" that they put on the cars like the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has stock will help with downforce becasue it is alot bigger. but the maxima spoiler is too dam small for any performance changes.

i dont think that it should be. Many cars dont have them, its more a safety so that people can clearly see that your braking.

As for the spoiler it does have functionality. It may not be Forumal 1 stlye type of thing but it does serve a purpose. look at the porsche 911 carrera. way does it have an automatic pop up wing? is it because they want to take on $$$$ for nothing?. Down force is the issue here. just like the front spoiler. sam thing to get the fron end down, to make it low at high speed. We could argue, but there is a reason why sports edition have them, because its part of a sport package, unless you wanted it then its an addon.

gee i wonder if the sports car would hande better with out them. going straight is one thing, but turns at high speed is another. As the car gets forced lower there is less resistance while getting lower, while also giving better handling.

get me hard concert proof that a spoiler is not functional then talk. the only thing i can conceed is that yeah it may not be a major dramactic difference, buts its there

You're more than welcome to take your stock spoiler off and compare. Theory is one thing and practical use another.

Third brake light removal is not illegal, at least not in florida. I asked a couple cops before doing it. It may vary from state to state.

Now here's the ironic part. It's not illegal to remove the 3rd brake light assembly... BUT!!!!

You can get a fine if the light doesn't work, and it's installed on the car.

i recently went spoilerless.....lowered my car, put clear corners on it...ordered the stillen kit. and my opinion on going spoilerless.....it makes the car look more luxurious, more sleek. but i noticed that in high speed cornering, you lose a bit of rear wheel stability...just enough to freak you out when going around a familiar curve at a familiar speed.... the little bit of functionality makes me want it back, but the looks of the car without it make me want to keep it off. Will fulfill my inner turmoil soon enough BTW i will have more pics of my car up soon...a little hard to do while in iraq, so bear with me.

I dont care for spoilers on any car or truck...especially any truck..blah..
They make cars too hard to wax, they fall off, they're ugly, and dont serve a purpose over the majority of the time I spend driving. Feel free to uglyfy your car with a spoiler

Yes I said uglyfy.

damn, this thread turned into a discussion on whether or not the spoiler is functional? Who cares about that? I ain't racing this thing, it's 14 years old, and automatic. I'm sure it is functional, maybe not uber-effective, but I'm sure it does something. I just think the car looks blah without it.

I like the spoilerless look, it's really good with rims, lowered, and a kit. I think awsm66's max looks great without it
