How long do OPTIMA batteries last?
Once a proud owner of an Optima red-top, now not so proud.
Replaced the first one about 1.5 years after having it. Wouldn't hold charge at all and Advance AutoParts test said it was gone.
Now a year after having the new one, it's not holding charge and goes dead in a month. I'm going to take it back and get another, since they do have a great warranty.

The optima's are basically indestructible. I've had mine for two years and fully discharged it numerous times. Its a champ. I think you have other issues Vyrus. Do other batteries do the same thing?
I don't think I have any other problems, the battery before my Optima never gave me any problems but then again I've done numerous electrical modifications to the car since then. I always hear they're indestructable, but I can't stand by that. Car hasn't been in an accident in a long time, since before the Optimas. Maybe it's my electrical system, I'm not sure but nonetheless I'm not happy that these Optimas keep on dying!

had an orange top (red top with reversed posts) for about 3 years now... before that, it sat on the shop floor at my work for over a year before I installed it.. I've run it dead as a doornail several times.. roll-start the car (glad I live on a sloped driveway!), and let it charge back up. never had a problem.
my first optima stopped holding a charge after a year but they come with either 3 or 5 years warranty so i took it back to discount and got a new one for free and that one has been goin strong for about a year and a half now
Got a red top used for $50 about 3 years ago, only dies in really cold weather if the car isn't driven for a couple days. No problem in warm weather, I know, I know it's time for a new one.
- I had a Yellow Top in my first Jeep for a couple years and never had a problem with it
- I've had a Yellow Top in my Maxima for a couple years and even drained it when my alternator went bad...but charged it up and it's still going
- I'm about to get another Yellow Top for my new Jeep...with all the lights and the winch I'm going to put on, I'll need it
oldie, but goodie.
My red top has lasted 6 years so far and my old one is still going strong in a family member's car after 8 years. The 8 year old one was also run dead due to a faulty alternator in my BMW and parked for 3 months before being re-charged....and it still works perfectly. Amazing batteries.

i have a red top from years ago, i think its rated for 900CCA and last time i tested it, i got nearly 1200CCA. i remember one winter it was -50c out, even brand new cars had trouble starting and with my red top i had no problems. ive switched all my vehicles to Optimas
My last optima was purchased around 2004, lasted less than 3 years. Had that happen a few times. I won't buy another and would recommend not buying one. Unless your planning on flipping your car upside down there's no reason what so ever to buy one, and even then a sealed 94R or H7 group battery will be fine for a bit.
The best value you can get with batteries is Costco but they don't have the best selection. If you can't find it at Costco go buy a DieHard gold. Interstates are my favorite but you cannot beat the Costco/Diehard warranty and they tend to be rated for just slightly higher capacity than the competition to make you feel better to boot. They're all made by Johnson Controls.

I had a red top and it failed less than 3 years got a new one under warranty from Autozone. We will see how long it lasts. If it fails again with no warranty I may get a duralast gold or XRP I hear they are both great batteries.
