does it have a stock place to mount a tow hitch? then its not made to tow. yes it can be done...just not a good idea. btw, tow rating is more about the tranny then the engine and how much power it has)

and i would tear up a festiva before a maxima

You can tow things with a Maxima (or any car, for that matter), but when you start towing things, you've got to worry about your rear suspension, your brakes, and your transmission. I don't know about the VQ30 from personal experience, but I assume that it's a sturdy, reliable engine. I know the VQ35 engine is definitely capable of doing SUV/Van duty. It's in the previous generation Pathfinder/QX4, and the current FX35, Murano, and Quest.

Towing a trailer (even if the trailer has its own brakes) puts extra strain on your car or truck's brakes, and the 5th gen Maxima brakes have some weaknesses (rotors warp easily with regular driving). Towing a trailer can also be hard on a car's transmission. If you plan on towing a couple of quads around (especially with warmer weather approaching), you might want to consider a tranny cooler. As for the rear suspension... well... if your trailer is heavy and you tow it often, you could start to see your springs sag and your shocks will die faster.

Max trailer weight is 1000 lbs and tongue weight is 110 lbs. This is very conservative b/c I had a Volvo 850 and its max rating is 3500 lbs. I bought an OEM Nissan hitch (part 99998-640945) for $145 CAD.
