94 SE for my 92 GXE Maybe

one of our customers has a 94 SE that he purchased a few months ago, and while it's been in our shop, he's unhappy that he bought a 5-speed. SO after speaking with him, he found out I had a 1-owner 92 GXE with an auto. hahaha. One thing leads to another and he's offering me his black SE 5-speed with 114K miles for my 92 GXE with 126K miles. No money was discussed so I am assuming he means a straight trade.
Why do I feel this is too good to be true. Aside from the VTC issues on the SE's, and the automatic transmission issues on the GXE's, I can't think of why I shouldn't do this trade.

Me neither. Assuming both are in similar condition. And since you say "shop" I assume you have the means and know how to check the VE well.

yeah I work at a Nissan Dealer and have some sharp tech's who can check things out that I know nothing about. So I think I'll call this guy and see when and how he wants to handle it. I already told him he can have his "bling" wheels. I've got 17's sitting at the house ready and waiting I can bolt on it.
Plus, I like black Maxi's with 5-speeds. my mom will be pissed since she was the original owner on the GXE. hahahaha. Oh well.

I wish......Mine have clacked for 3 years now.

I put a switch on my gear shifter so i can ground and unground the vtc's at a flick of a switch.

YEAH THAT'S THE RUMOR.

come to find out this 94 SE has been sitting for 2 months at a body shop getting repainted. We brought it in, id our stuff, cleaned it up and the VTC's are quiet now. If I get it I'm doing a complete fluid flush from top to bottom. Sometimes working at a dealer has its perks, lifts, equipment, tools etc.

Well if you can get your dealer to replace the VTCs, maybe you can get them done for less than the $1 billion that Nissan dealers normally charge.

I believe retail on the VTC's is like $487 a piece. But the real killer is LABOR time for those who have it done.

I would do the trade in a heart beat. No thinking twice. I have a 92 SE automatic and i have been dying to get the same car in a 5 spd black so i have to do it the hard way and change the tranny from auto to manual. and from my end right now it doesnt look pretty.

ya, first check the car for bad parts, he may have changed the oil every 10,00 miles, and never changed tranny fluid, dude make sure you are getting into somethign that you know wont hurt you. test drive the car for like 5 miles and see, test he car, around corners and step on it hard and fell how it shifts
