About a month ago my brake and charge light would come on (at the same time) for about 2 seconds maybe twice a week, it didn't matter if it was day or night. Well about two weeks ago, I had the alternator replaced thinking that would get rid of the problem, but it didn't. A few days later, I barely made it home as my headlights went dim, so i thought maybe its the battery, so i replace my yellow top optima with a duralast gold from autozone. I'm still having the same problem, only now the charge and brake light comes on when my headlights are on, and after i've come to a complete stop (traffic light or stop sign) and accelerate from a stop. The lights don't stay on, its just a fraction of a second. Any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks

 

Brake and Charge lights indicate a low charge output problem, ususally it's the alternator. Have your charging system checked with a load meter to see whats going on.

Kind of odd to get so many bad parts. It might not even be your battery or alternator. From my experiences a alternator won't bring up the light on all occassions. Sounds like you might have a defective regulator. That'll keep killing your battery. Plus it'll bring up the battery light every time.

 

It is odd, and i've had the car checked out twice, once by a generator/alternator shop and my local mechanic who is a nissan master mechanic, and they didn't find anything. Of course the lights wouldn't come on when they had it.

 

Would my underdrive pulley have anything to do with this problem?

 

The underdrive pulley might cause a slightly low amperage output at idle speed, but not while your cruisng.

 

Your drive belt could be causing it. The tention on it might not be tight enough. It shouldn't move more then 6-7mm when you push on it.

 

Doh, I didn't read the part where you changed your alternator already. I noticed you said you had a tech look at it, ws that with the new alternator? Your UDP might be the cause also.

 

The master mechanic looked at the old alternator, the generator shop did the install on the new one, and checked it again after i had the problem with the battery.
